February 10, 2012 On behalf of the Center for Life Long Development at JCC of Staten Island . . . Welcome! We thank you for joining and look forward to sharing in this new journey together. Now that you are a CLLD Participant, we hope to see you here often - actively enjoying our 6 Centers of Excellence: Life Long Learning, Computer/Technology, Sports and Wellness, Arts and Entertainment, Social Action and Intergenerational. Please remember to wear your CLLD bracelet at all times when you are participating in program, classes and special events. If you have not received your bracelet, please see Marsha at the CLLD office located on the second floor next to the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Adult Lounge. All participants will receive a call from one of our staff members to schedule an appointment to complete forms required by the Department for the Aging (DFTA). This initial Program Guide covers programs, classes and special events scheduled for March-April; we will issue a new Program Guide every semester. We are really excited to be offering this Innovative Program to Staten Islanders and hope that you join us in developing future programs and events through the various Centers of Excellence Committees. This program is the power of you. We hope to see you utilizing all we have to offer. If I or our staff can be of service, please do not hesitate to contact us. See you at the “J”! Sincerely, Orit Lender CLLD Program Director

Welcome to the Joan and Alan Bernikow Jewish Community Center We are pleased and excited to have you visiting our building as you take part in the wonderful new Innovative Senior Center named the Center for Life Long Development. Whether you use the pool for a water aerobics class, “trek” through our Fitness Center or enjoy dinner and then dance to the music of the Full Count Big Band, you’ll find our modern facility easy to navigate and our staff welcoming and eager to help. After you have spent time here if you are curious about having access to all the JCC has to offer on your own schedule, be sure to stop by the Membership Office and speak to Jill Gottlieb, our JCC Membership Director. She’ll be happy to explain your options and the benefits of becoming a platinum member at the JCC.

Social Service Programs at the JCC The Jewish Community Center functions as a human services agency committed to enhancing the physical, intellectual and spiritual wellness of the individual, family and community. We provide health, cultural and educational programs that serve the community at large, with special attention given to populations at risk. Among the many programs the JCC administers are Case Management Services, which provides older homebound adults and their families a case manager to help navigate the maze of services to develop strength-based individual care plans. We also offer Caregiver Services for adults caring for elderly spouses and parents with physical or cognitive disorders as well as a program for Grandparents as Caregivers. Our Kosher Meals on Wheels program delivers meals to elderly homebound providing vital help and contact to the most isolated. In addition to all these DFTA supported programs, the JCC provides services and programs for over 30,000 individuals and support over 600 young families on Staten Island with day care, afterschool care, tutoring and related services. If you would like to contribute or support any of these vital services, please contact Kevin Brosnick, Director of Individual Giving at 718.475.5256 or kbrosnick@sijcc.com.
