Dhanbad - ‘The coal capital of India’, Bokaro - ‘Steel City’ and Jamshedpur - ‘Tatanagar’ are the 3 largest cities in the Chota Nagpur plateau. Along with the state capital Ranchi, these three cities constitute the urban part of Jharkhand. The railways play a crucial role in the establishment, development and functioning of these urban industrial agglomerations. This project documents the landscape and built environment in, around and between these cities, from a unique perspective offered by a train journey through the industrial belt. It is a visual travelogue that aims to inform an audience about the character and identity of the region that comprises the industrial belt.
