CCS Position on
“Harry Potter” Dear CCS Parents, Please be notified that Harry Potter and all related paraphernalia are not allowed here at CCS. Ever since the first book came out, the media and advertising industry have done a very thorough job saturating every aspect of the children’s “market”. Bookstores, toy stores, video stores, movie theaters, and thousands of public school systems have been flooded with Harry Potter. But, there are some very real concerns that diligent Christian parents must give attention to. Much has been written to warn Christian parents that the Harry Potter “fantasies” are spiritually dangerous for their children. Attached is a summary of facts that I have compiled regarding Harry Potter. I have also attached one of many informative articles CCS has on file concerning this issue. For those who would like to probe even further, an excellent video is available in the CCS “archives” exposing the threat of the Harry Potter books and movies. (may be checked out from the school office of purchased at Gullions). Calvary parents, please do not allow your children to see any Harry Potter movie, whether at the theater, on video, etc. Please take time to read this article as a beginning point to understanding this issue from a Christian perspective. If you have any questions or comments, please let me know. Sincerely yours for excellence in Christian education,

What Parents Need to Know The Harry Potter books introduce children to real occult practices. [Human sacrifice, the drinking of animal blood, black magic, curses & spells, divination (fortune telling), sorcery, real occult symbology, evolution, reincarnation, demon possession, communing with the dead and the spirit world, meditation for self empowerment, and much more.] It is very dangerous to make evil seem innocent. Harry Potter presents children with teaching on real occult practices in the seemingly innocent wrapping of children’s fantasy literature. It teaches children that there is good wizardry, good sorcery, etc.
Children’s fantasy literature is not harmless just because it is fantasy. Children’s fantasy literature can be very harmful if it launches the child into an imaginary world of murder, immorality, violence, etc. We are terribly naïve if we fail to make a clear distinction between healthy imagination and poisoned imagination. A little poison can kill!
Witchcraft is real – not fantasy! Harry Potter is a close representation of real witchcraft practices, as attested by those who study its actual practices today. (Ex: Real implements of modern witchcraft are sold in the “market” that Harry is led through by the giant. Harry learns the real Wiccan practice of meditation (“concentrate, Harry!”) for tapping into the power within himself. Harry learns he can control others and his circumstances through the use of curses and spells. Etc.)
Harry Potter plants in children’s minds the idea that witchcraft is for children, not just adults!
Children relate to Harry. Many wish they could be like him, as demonstrated by the many letters written to the author by young Potter fans themselves. The reader is led to sympathize with Harry as he uses curses and spells for vengeance. Harry lies, does wrong and disobeys, and is rewarded. Absolute right and wrong is not portrayed in Harry Potter – only each character’s perception of it. Over half of all children ages 6-17 have read at least one Harry Potter book. How great will Harry Potter’s influence be after the children have been seduced by all of Hollywood’s special effect enhancements to this occultic story? Children are directed by Harry Potter literature to real Pagan and witchcraft web sites. (After being made intensely curious about spells, curses, magic, etc. by Harry Potter.) English witchcraft websites swell by 1000’s of “hits” every time Buffy the Vampire Slayer airs on TV. Interest in wizardry dramatically increased after Harry Potter hit the theater. WICCA (witchcraft) is recognized as a legal religion, the fastest growing religion in the US. Over 1,800 books on witchcraft are available through Amazon Books. Harry Potter books have broken all records in children’s book sales, have been translated into 40 different languages, and are the target of mass marketing by Coca Cola, Mattel and Warner brothers. How many Christian’s will be wise enough to recognize the danger?
The Harry Potter books have opened thousands of children’s minds to an increasing desire to read more Harry Potter, and other books related to the occult.
As the author (J. K. Rowling) promised, Harry’s world since the first book has become increasingly darker! May the Lord protect our children!!!
Deuteronomy 18:10-12 (God’s View of Harry Potter and other related issues)
There shall not be found among you any one that ‌ useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, 11Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. 12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: 10
2 Kings 23:3, 24 (What happens when God sends revival to His people?) 3
And the king (Josiah) stood by a pillar, and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD, and to keep his commandments and his testimonies and his statutes with all their heart and all their soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. 24 Moreover the workers with familiar spirits, and the wizards, and the images, and the idols, and all the abominations that were spied in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, did Josiah put away, that he might perform the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of the LORD.
Will we set before our children enticements (like Harry Potter) to learn the way of wizards, mediums, enchanters, sorcerers, and other occultic practitioners? Heaven Forbid! May the Lord protect our children!
