BAY OF QUINTE

artisan guide

WELCOME!

Heather

Kyli

e

Thank you for picking up the first issue of the Side Hustle Artisan Guide! It’s a labour of love filled with unique artists, growers and makers from the Bay of Quinte (BOQ) region. This guide gives you access to our local talent and we hope you will take it with you on your travels throughout the region. We started Side Hustle Market as a pop-up market in 2019 as a way to give these talented folks a place to showcase their incredible work and it has gradually grown with the help of other small businesses and a wildly supportive community. If you’re not familiar with the term, a side hustle is a way of making an income alongside your everyday job. We prefer to say that a side hustle is a way to express one’s talents and creativity. We are grateful to the BOQ businesses who have hosted us, the venues that we’ve worked with and to everyone who has come out to support Side Hustle Market artisans. Special thanks to everyone who contributed to making this guide happen including Bay of Quinte Regional Marketing Board. We believe in this community and we hope to continue bringing you the best vibes, the best buys, and all the local love for years to come. Maybe you’ll be inspired to start your own side hustle too. Ever since I graduated from design school, I’ve been making, repairing or altering clothing. But it wasn’t until 2018 that I grew serious about producing a line of clothing. I just knew in my heart that it was time to focus on my love for designing sustainable clothing. I’m passionate about helping to protect the environment and my hope is that when someone buys a garment from me they avoid buying a piece of fast fashion. I want people to feel good wearing Heather Case clothing because it is environmentally friendly and made just for them. I’d love to see my brand reach a broader audience interested in sustainable clothing, maybe even branch into menswear. I’d love to grow to the point of being able to hire a team and have a large studio.

Our passion was sparked by our Grandmother, Mom and Aunts who passed down ancient beauty rituals from our culture and heritage down to us. Some of the happiest times and most important lessons came from our weekly afternoon pampering sessions with the Matriarchs in our family. When we developed our skincare line, our goal was to share the transformative power of taking a mundane routine into a treasured ritual. I have always been into creative arts. I find it very easy to look at things and visualize them in my mind, in a more artistic way than they initially appear. This often influences my passion to shoot and create.

Website: etsy.com/ca/shop/ SummerJCrochet

When it comes to shooting there are a few things I specifically shoot for: light, movement and emotion. I hope people feel like they are looking at more than just a snapshot and instead see a bit of art. Mastering your craft or niche can take years and there are always ways to grow. These days I have found joy in teaching others and hope to someday be able to produce and share all the digital learning resources I have on my to-do list.
