Project 1 developed a relationship with historic sections as a graphic device through analog drawing, writing, modeling, and photography. Consistently drawing profiles of vertical cuts produced an understanding of relationships between interior and exterior conditions, mass and space proportions and form and force interaction. Structure was drawn as an extension of the ground to express a continuation of material being cut, later influencing interactions between model and site. Reference lines became important in the alignment and generation of future sections. Modeling introduced gravity to sections, and photography superimposed the resulting spaces. Emphasis was placed on written narratives to reflect on historical events and evaluate hierarchies.
