In-Situ Robotic Fabrication of Facades Topological optimisation study of a building envelope segment. The optimisation is performed recursively to initially generate the primary structure, and then secondary and tertiary sub-structural divisions. In addition, glass frit layers of variable depth are embedded in the glass topology, in cellular regions formed by the optimisation. Varying the amount of the frit allows for control of the opacity, translucency and transparency of the whole skin and corresponds to a solar radiation analysis that showed areas of high and low sun exposure.

TOPOLOGY OPTIMISATION OF WHOLE ELEVATION (full size of all elevations) The scale of topological optimization has been further expanded, from one elevation to a collection of all elevations. The facade system as a whole for generative design is a type of integral facade rather than a standard penalization system. The production process is also from 2D images to 3D models by millipede. This reduces the stress on the joint and solves the thermal bridge problem. We have adjusted and refined the parameters of new generated internal system for many times, and finally the unnecessary materials were removed.

Unrolled elevation study of the topologically optimised multi-material facade designs. Image-tracing routines are used to convert the gradient colouration resulting from the topological optimisation into sub-material segments that, in turn, correspond with available materials in the multi-material 3D printing palette.

Senior apartment This senior aparment design is mainly for the old. I was responsible for all the plans from the earliest stage to the final stage. Also, digital modelling, basic data caculation and some section drawings are my major duty. I needed to attend the meetings with our clients everyweek and coorperated with engineers from other companies.
Resort planning This project is about a resort planning that locates within a national tourist resort. It is a combination of hotel design and senior apartment design. The senior apartments are placed at the highest part of the whole site, which is the quietest parts that are surrounded by wonderful scenery. As a result, the whole planning enbraces the surrounding environment. I was responsible for the digital modelling and site plan renderring in this project.
Nanjing Hongfeng E As a commercial building design project, the site plan focuses on how to show humanistic care to talented people. To decrease the impact of city tracffic and high voltage grid around the site, the building blocks are planned as a U shape. In this project, I was mainly responsible for the site planning and a part of digital modelling.
GRADUATION PROJECT My graduation project focused on the creation of spaces for laboratory of performing arts in Richmond. The site closes to local cultural institution like museums and cathedral. The buildings surround the site are typically western buildings, which are formed by heavy stone walls. In this case, the stone element was continued in my design but it became light. The light hollow facade enbles more sunlight into the spaces.
