PROJECT INTRODUCTION As an organic part of the urban texture, in the protection and renewal of urban historic districts, attention should not only be paid to the inheritance of old patterns and buildings, but also to the addition of modern elements. In the process of renovation and design, on the one hand, it is necessary to reconstruct the historic district style through combing the space, maintaining the ancient buildings and displaying the traditional living conditions. On the other hand, we need to inject new vitality in modern society, expand block contexts, evolution of architectural styles and change building function, the purpose is to inherit context.

INTRODUCTION
'HERITAGE HUB' IN FUMIAO
History of HUZHOU
HUZHOU has 2 state-level development zones, 5 provincial-level development zones (parks), 1 provincial-level tourist resort, 8 provinciallevel modern service industry cluster demonstration zones, as well as more than 30 city-level characteristic industrial clusters such as "Wuxingdongbu" Photoelectric Industrial Park and NANXUN LINHU Energy-saving Elevator Industrial Park. HUZHOU has been known for its picturesque scenery and pleasant living since ancient times. "Tai Lake, ancient town, bamboo town, famous mountains, wetlands, ancient ecology" has long been synonymous with green HUZHOU. The idea of holding up a banner of ecological civilization, protecting green mountains and clear waters, and building an ecologically livable city has long been integrated into practice. In recent years, HUZHOU has made coordinated progress in economic, social, cultural, ecological and party building. It has been listed as a pilot city of provincial ecological civilization construction and a pilot area of national ecological civilization construction. It has one state-level ecological county and 34 ecological towns and townships, and the public satisfaction with ecological environment quality has ranked top three in the province in the past four years.

In such a city with profound cultural deposits, I chose one of the sites of historical and cultural heritage -- FU MIAO Temple as my design goal.
Why did I choose it?

"Three HUZHOU uniques" are the key scenic spots and historic sites in HUZHOU city. When tourists come to HUZHOU, they are first introduced to visit these three historical and cultural sites. Although they were built at different times and have different histories, all the three have one thing in common. Bridge in bridge, temple in temple and tower in tower -- a big contains a small.
FEIYING TOWER
CITY CENTER

The FEIYING Tower is located in a park, people need to buy tickets to enter the tower to visit, the old people also do exercise, chat, in the morning here, sometimes children also play and visit in the park where is a good place for local residents to relax.

However, FUMIAO is an abandoned temple, and there was only a messy commerce around it.
04
05
The commercial area can be named in “commerce hub”. The residential area like a “community hub” and some public places where people can do anything want are more like a freedom area —— “creative hub”. And the site can be together named “heritage hub”. So the city center will become a “city hub” in the end.

Through a lot of research and field investigation on the use of the crowd around the site, the movable crowd in the site came from all directions. Some people choose to walk to the site, while others take buses or private cars to go shopping, walk and exercise nearby. It can be seen that this area can be used as a "communication" platform in the center of Huzhou. In addition, the area belongs to the historical and cultural heritage, so people can experience the local culture through the activities here.

From the perspective of geographical location and traffic conditions, first of all, the site is located in Huzhou city, Zhejiang Province. Huzhou has convenient transportation and independent high-speed railway station, which makes it easy to reach Shanghai, Hangzhou, Suzhou and other cities, becoming an important hub node in Zhejiang province. Secondly, as far as the Fumiao area is concerned, it is located in the center of the city, surrounded by many bus stops, and closely connected to the downtown business district. The arrival time of the surrounding traffic is less than 20 minutes. 12

To the south of the site, there is a riverside park opposite the main road of the city. In the park, there are elements of Huzhou urban culture, plus a good green environment. There is a large flow of people in the park, so the green area should be extended to the temple. Make them as a whole to attract people into the site area.
The temple is surrounded by the commercial center of the city, which can be said to be the collision between traditional and modern culture. From the perspective of architectural appearance, floor height and human activities, it is a kind of cultural collision and fusion.
There are many residential areas around the site, and people usually walk or bike for a walk when they take a rest. In the design of the road and walking path, all areas must be connected to facilitate people's travel and the accessibility of the site. 16

Cultural Activities
Chinese traditional festivals are a part of the long history and culture of the Chinese nation with diverse forms and rich contents. The formation of traditional festivals is the process of a nation or country's longterm accumulation of history and culture. For example, the Spring Festival, the Lantern Festival and the MidAutumn Festival all have a long history. From these festival customs handed down today, we can clearly see the wonderful picture of ancient people's social life. The origin and development of Chinese traditional festivals is a process of gradual formation and improvement, which gradually infiltrates into social life. Like the development of society, it is the product of the development of human society to a certain stage. In ancient China, these festivals were mostly related to astronomy, calendar, mathematics, and the later solar terms. So, people have different customs when they celebrate each traditional festival, such as dragon boat race, eating tangyuan, and guessing lantern riddles. When these festivals come, people gather together to celebrate, and the best place to hold traditional activities is in temples, or "temple fairs" as they are called in China.

Roof Garden The site is mostly hard pavement and buildings with a low greening rate, but the surrounding parks and commercial centers have a high greening rate, which extends the green area to the temple and plays a guiding role.

Temples in China are often built in scenic spots near mountains and rivers, often surrounded by rugged terrain. A temple is a place for monks to become monks and practice. Buddhist practice is quiet, and a temple is a place to relieve worries. It should be integrated with mountains and rivers, and make people feel relaxed when they come to a temple.
29
There is a large flow of people in the adjacent park, and the landscape sketch in the park has the historical and cultural elements of Huzhou. The park can be used as an entrance to introduce people to the temple area, so as to solve the problems of low greening rate, small entrance and no guidance in the site.

pedestrian Modern buildings in the roof garden are equipped with lifts to allow people to reach high places.
Plant Furnishing
The arrangement of plants in the roof garden follows the color change of the four seasons, making the roof garden full of color and vitality throughout the year. Walking on the sidewalk or around the site, people are naturally attracted to the roof landscape, and upon reaching the roof garden, they find a quiet place in the bustling city, thus realizing being guided to the temple and experiencing more cultural activities.
33
Urban Facilities The site lacks cultural elements, which makes it difficult for people to feel the heritage of the area, extract local characteristic elements and combine them with public facilities.

Personal summary and thanks
This period of studying at MSA will be the most important memory in my life. I still remember the present of last year. Because of my love and dedication to my major, I came to Manchester and met you dear-my classmates and tutors. We discuss papers and design plans together. Every tutorial is a kind of growth for me. The patience and care of the tutors are the biggest motivation for me in the learning process. Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, my study abroad life this year has become more meaningful. Although we can't go out to meet, we have very effective communication through ZOOM. I really enjoy the process of video calls with tutors. It seems that the teacher-student relationship has been closer. Thank you very much to my tutors and classmates, I love you! I really look forward to seeing you again!
