ASpire comes to Shropshire! ASpire, from Autism West Midlands is working to support people with Asperger syndrome into work. Sara recently spoke to Simon Fraser from Aspire who is based at Enable, in Monkmoor, Shrewsbury. Sara has invited Simon and his colleague, Emma, to meet with the group from 8.00pm at our Pub Social at the Brooklands Hotel, Shrewsbury on May 22nd. This will be an interesting evening as Simon has a lot of experience of employment and Asperger syndrome and HFA (High Functioning Autism). Please try to come! For more information on Aspire go to www.autismwestmidlands.org.uk/aspire

Do you want to go have a go at Quasar? Some of our members had a look around Quasar at AMF Bowling. Quasar is a bit like being in a computer game and takes place in a large dark room at the bowling centre. There are stairs and lots of places to hide! You wear a special pack on your torso, which is connected to a laser gun. The idea is to gain points by shooting at the targets on people’s packs with the laser gun. People can also shoot at you! For more information about Quasar go to: www.bedfordquasar.co.uk

Understanding autism and employment is important for people with an Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC). Dr Elisabeth Hill would like to hear from you if you are a parent of a child (young or adult) with a diagnosed ASC or an adult with a diagnosed ASC. She would you to take part in her study by completing a simple questionnaire. She is interested if you work part-time, fulltime or do not at work. If you can help with the study go to: homepages.gold.ac.uk/autismand employment

If you have any questions you can contact Dr Hill at e.hill@gold.ac.uk or on 020 7919 7886.
