Announcements week of September 9th Christianity and World Religions is a six-week study that explores four major world religions — Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, and Judaism — and compares the beliefs of each with those of Christianity. This study deals with questions people ask about other religions, including why we should believe the claims of Christianity over those of other faiths. The author urges us as Christians to build bridges with others so that we might grow in our faith, seek peace in our world, love our neighbor, and find positive ways to share the gospel. Join us for this compelling study on Wednesday evenings this fall from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in Room 9, beginning Wednesday, September 19th . Please contact Suzie Bridges for more information at

KIDSTUF KICKS OFF SEPT 12TH! KidStuf is a monthly family gathering time where kids and parents learn together about God’s Big Ideas! It’s a 45-minute, fun, digital interactive experience designed for families that typically takes place on the 2nd Wednesday of each month. KidStuf exists to partner with parents. We believe parents are ultimately responsible for the spiritual development of their children (Deuteronomy 6:4-9). We recognize that parents have a whole lot more time with their kids than anyone at church— each year kids spend about 3,000 hours with their parents versus the 40 or so that they spend attending church on Sunday. No one has more influence over a child than his or her parent! So we believe that it is our role to partner with parents by providing a plan that will give them the tools they need to lead their kids spiritually.

CHILDREN AT THE LORD’S TABLE COMING SOON! Our Children at the Lord’s Table workshop will be offered this fall as part of the “Wednesday Night Live” programming on September 19, 26 and October 3, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Family Ministry Center. All children in 2nd-5th grades who would like to learn about the sacraments of Baptism and Communion are invited to attend these three educational and interactive sessions with Pastor Britta. Participants will receive First Communion and be recognized at worship on Sunday, October 7th (World Communion Sunday) at the 11 a.m. service at William Cannon.

KidStuf is for elementary age kids (K-4th) AND their parents. 5th graders are also welcome, but most choose to attend the TRUE tween program with Pastor Mike during this same time. Our opening show of the 2012-2013 school year is right around the corner, so mark you calendars now to join us on WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 12TH, AT 6:30 P.M. IN THE FAMILY MINISTRY CENTER. We look forward to seeing you there!

To sign your child up for the class or learn more about Children at the Lord’s Table in general, please contact Pastor Britta at or 892-3580, ext. 107. 5

Come and see!

Our guests are coming!

The Guatemala Team invites the congregation to a potluck dinner

IHN (Interfaith Hospitality Network) guests are families with children who, because of a crisis situation in their lives, have lost their homes. The program provides for them to live at Austin area churches while they find housing and get back on their feet.

Sunday, September 16 6 - 8 p.m., in the Family Ministry Center. We’ll showcase this summer's Guatemala mission efforts — we had two teams that worked with our partners at three different locations in Guatemala! Take advantage of this opportunity to understand how your mission dollars are being used, to meet the mission travelers, and to learn about next year's participation opportunities.

During the week of September 30th — October 7th, four IHN families will live at our church and will be fed and sheltered by volunteers at our church. This is your opportunity to help these families through this time of crisis. Tasks performed by hosts (SHPC folk and members of Faith Presbyterian Church and Abiding Love Lutheran Church) include: Move-in: Sunday 12:30 Dinner Preparers: 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Overnight Host: 8:00 p.m. to 7:15 a.m. Evening Host: 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Weekend Breakfast Servers: Sat 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.; Sun 7:00 a.m to 7:30 a.m.

Saturday Hosts and lunch: several shifts Supply Donors: all week Transportation Volunteers and Linen Washers. Move-out: Sunday 6:30 am

Folks coming to the dinner are asked to bring a Guatemalan dish, a Mexican dish, or a salad/vegetable. For further information, please contact David Parmer at (512)294-3252 or at

Young children make excellent hosts, because the guests are mostly young children. Sign up in the narthex for this volunteer opportunity or contact Stuart McIntire stuart78704 @ / 788-4455 or Lara Manire 922-3615.
