Announcements SCHOOL SPIRIT SUNDAY It's Back-to-School time! Here is a blessing for children returning to school. Take a few moments this week to pray for our SHPC kids as they hit the hallways and start studying. God our teacher, we thank you for the gift of these children that you have entrusted to us. Bless them as they leave for school and begin a new year of study. Help them to be good listeners, to show respect to the teachers, staff, and classmates at their school. Protect them throughout the day during times of learning, study and play. Give them strength as they stand up against bullying, and live what they believe. May they always know that they are loved and valued by us and by You…no matter what. Amen

KIDSTUF KICKS OFF SEPT 12TH!

Once in a Lifetime & Worth the Drive! See the Dead Sea Scrolls

KidStuf is a monthly family gathering time where kids and parents learn together about God’s Big Ideas! It’s a 45-minute, fun, digital interactive experience designed for families that typically takes place on the 2nd Wednesday of each month.

One of the most comprehensive exhibitions of Dead Sea Scrolls ever assembled is now on display at the MacGorman Performing Arts Center on the campus of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. The Dead Sea Scrolls are the oldest manuscripts of the best-selling Book of the Ages — the Bible. This exhibition, titled Dead Sea Scrolls & the Bible: Ancient Artifacts, Timeless Treasures is open for viewing in Fort Worth, at Southwestern Seminary's MacGorman Chapel, through January 13, 2013.

KidStuf exists to partner with parents. We believe parents are ultimately responsible for the spiritual development of their children (Deuteronomy 6:4-9). We recognize that parents have a whole lot more time with their kids than anyone at church— each year kids spend about 3,000 hours with their parents versus the 40 or so that they spend attending church on Sunday. No one has more influence over a child than his or her parent! So we believe that it is our role to partner with parents by providing a plan that will give them the tools they need to lead their kids spiritually.

Just outside the exhibition, the Qumran Simulated Dig Site lets visitors of all ages experience what it's like to be a real archaeologist. A hands-on experience where you can learn how archaeologists uncover the past through an interactive replica off the coast of the Dead Sea, it's the next best thing to traveling halfway across the world to perform your own Qumran excavation.

KidStuf is for elementary age kids (K-4th) AND their parents. 5th graders are also welcome, but most choose to attend the TRUE tween program with Pastor Mike during this same time. Our opening show of the 2012-2013 school year is right around the corner, so mark you calendars now to join us on WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 12TH, AT 6:30 P.M. IN THE FAMILY MINISTRY CENTER. CHILDREN AT THE LORD’S TABLE COMING SOON! Our Children at the Lord’s Table workshop will be offered this fall as part of the “Wednesday Night Live” programming on September 19, 26 and October 3, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Family Ministry Center. All children in 2nd-5th grades who would like to learn about the sacraments of Baptism and Communion are invited to attend these three educational and interactive sessions with Pastor Britta. Participants will receive First Communion and be recognized at worship on Sunday, October 7th (World Communion Sunday) at the 11 a.m. Service at William Cannon.

WESTCAVE CELLARS TOUR Join PrimeTime for a private tour and wine-tasting at Westcave Cellars. Then we will have a late lunch (about 3:30 p.m.) of BBQ brisket and fixings. Allan and Margaret Fetty, long time members of SHPC, started Westcave as a 3 acre vineyard in 1999. Since then, they've continued to expand, and in 2010, they began to produce their own wine — Westcave Cellars. We will carpool from SHPC at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, September 6th. Cost of $15 includes the wine-tasting and the lunch. We’ll return to SHPC at about 5 p.m. Reservations and payments can be made in the narthex on Sundays, August 19th, 26th and September 2nd.

Child Care Team Hiring Qualified Hearts Preschool & Elementary Sunday School starts September 9th, and we would love to have some new faces join us on our volunteer teams – at both campuses! We have openings available for Preschool crew (class) leaders, Elementary small group leaders, and behind-the-scenes prep and design team members. It takes a village to make Sunday School happen, and we want to welcome YOU into the group!

Do you love working with children? Could you use some extra “mad money” in your pocket? The SHPC Child Care team is hiring qualified individuals, with hearts for children, to provide care for nursery and preschool age children during Sunday morning worship and weekday morning and evening adult studies. Possible workdays include, but are not limited to: Sunday mornings, Monday mornings, Tuesday mornings and evenings, Wednesday evenings, Thursday mornings. Flexible shifts are available.

Here are the details: · Lesson plans are prepared for you · Supplies are provided each week · Substitutes are available if you need to miss a week · We prep for you so you can spend quality time with the children!

The right candidate will meet the following criteria: -Experience working in and an understanding of developmentally appropriate early childhood settings -A love of children & building relationships with families -Energetic & positive demeanor -Outstanding written & verbal communication skills -Neat, professional appearance -Reliable transportation -17 years of age or older

CPR/First Aid certification is preferred upon application. However, SHPC will provide training for otherwise-qualified applicants. All applicants will be subject to a criminal history background check.

Make a dinner date with Presbyterian Pan Am You won't want to miss this event as 11 Presbyterian churches, including our own congregation, welcome Presbyterian Pan American School to Austin for a dinner and Silent Auction. On September 15th at 5:30 p.m., join us at University Presbyterian Church to visit with some of the students, listen to a performance by their Morris Chapel Choir, meet the School's new president, and more. Since the meal is being provided by the churches, there will be no charge for the dinner, and all proceeds will benefit the School's Scholarship Fund.
