Soup to Nuts Luncheon: Who Wrote the King James Bible? oversee a specific translation of the Bible into English? Interesting times!

If you would be surprised to learn that it wasn’t King James, come to the May th 17 Soup to Nuts Luncheon, where Sherry Smith will reveal interesting information about King James and how he got his Bible. For example, how could the son of a Catholic arch-rival to Protestant reformer John Knox, and to Protestant Queen Elizabeth I of England, become the first king to rule over both Scotland and England and the first king to authorize and

This year we celebrate the 400th anniversary of the publication of the King James Authorized Version of the Holy Bible. Join us Tuesday, May 17th at 11 a.m. in the FMC and hear about the fascinating times and people that produced this much-beloved book and then stay to have a delicious lunch featuring a trio of salads (chicken, spinach, and fruit) catered by Our Lady of the Lunch, Beth Watson. RSVP to Annie Ward at 373-8803 or Norma Burchard at 394-0131 by May 14th. Cost? $6.50 /person.

Concert on the Land! MAY 29th singer-songwriter WALT WILKINS FREE! STARTS 5:30 p.m. bring your own: picnic, lawn chair, and a dessert to share

FOUND: a gold Schlage “Dell Webb” (Sun City?) key on a green stretchy wrist thing-y. To claim, contact the church office – church@shpc.org or 8913580.

If you aren't already a Walt Wilkins fan, Walt has churned multi-miles beneath his wheels and gathered up the ragged thoughts and discarded pearls that help him to render the distinctive images and characters that follow. His songwriting is southern roots and road-worn gospel and the deep creases and genuine smile help to authenticate the honesty of his witnessing. www.waltwilkins.com 2

Become a DISCIPLE Disciple! Disciple is a September to May Bible study that meets for two hours each week for thought-provoking group discussions. The heart of this program is about transformation rather than just information. Participants learn how to live their lives as disciples.

Tentative DISCIPLE Schedule for Fall 2011 Disciple 1: Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study (Bible overview) Mondays 7-9 pm

Disciple 4: Under the Tree of Life (OT - wisdom literature and poetry, NT – John’s Gospel and letters, Revelation) Disciple 2: Into the Wednesdays 9:3011:30 am Word, Into the Jesus in the GosWorld (Genesis, Exodus, Luke, Acts) pels (comparative Mondays 9:30-11:30 reading of Matthew, am // also 7-9 pm, Mark, Luke, and John) Thursdays 7-9 day TBD pm

It’s now time to start signing up for the 2011-2012 set of classes so we can train leaders this summer. There are four separate studies. The first one is an overview of about 70% of the Bible. It is strongly suggested that you take this Disciple 1 class before taking any of the upper level classes that dig more specifically into certain books of the Bible.
