The Burlington

Spring Horse Show By Donna Nabors

The 2012 Burlington Horse Show is always a good place to take that inexperienced horse in the show barn. The classes are not overflowing, but the competition is such that winning a blue ribbon there is not always a guarantee for the seasoned entries. While there are numerous shows going on practically every weekend starting in May, this show just outside Cincinnati, Ohio brings competitors from a wide area. Sometimes it looks like “old home week”, as it may have been the previous Burlington show in the fall that people saw each other last. Without the festival atmosphere that accompanies the Burlington Fair and Horse Show later in the season, the focus stays on the ever-improving horses and their riders, keeping in mind the big payoff that waits for those worthy enough to make the trip to the Kentucky State Fair and World Championships less than three months away. The Friday and Saturday night classes were numerous and showed a wide variety of talents, both with the Saddlebreds and Arabians. Announcer Ron Burcham is always informing the crowd of the type of class and qualifications of the entries, which always seems to be well received by the spectators who aren’t familiar with saddleseat riding or driving requirements. While the evening classes were geared mainly toward the adults, both amateur and professional, Saturday’s daytime classes were all about the youngsters and adults working their way up the ranks in the competitions. Louisville Equestrian Center, Besty Webb Stables, Little Britian and Sandy Run stables all brought their students to duke it out with the likes of Zubrod, Spring Hill and Showtime stables. All in the name of good fun and friendly competition, nearly everyone had a ribbon by the end of the day. It’s no doubt that many of these neophytes will be making their victory pass aboard their own pride and joy in a future show.

Lilly Justice, Claire Giffis, Isabelle Fuchs, and Katie Maxwell are definately enjoying themselves at the show.
