Simon Says WELCOME TO UNLIMITED, Shoreline Church’s exciting, informative and helpful magazine. Unlimited has something for you, no ifs, buts, or maybes. Actually, life can be full of if buts and maybes. If I could just do this or that. This is bound to help but... Maybe I should and maybe I shouldn’t... Things in life that are a ‘100% sure thing’ that we can rely on would seem to be more and more rare. Remember the old saying, ‘you can bank on it,’ well I’m not sure that works so well after the last few years of banking crisis after banking crisis. When we are in a crisis or just sailing through life, having a loving family and dependable friends are an enriching stabilising part of our lives.

I don’t know how your hopes and dreams are doing right now, but I know through the highs and lows life’s journey can take us, our hopes and dreams can fade and even die. I was at a conference recently where I heard a true and powerful statement. “If there is hope in the future, there is power in the present, If there is no hope, there is no power in the moment.” if we lose hope, we lose the power for our dreams because we give up. In Jesus there is always hope. What are you hoping for right now? What are you hoping for today? What are you hoping for in the weeks and months ahead? Realise that great hope we always have access to though Jesus and let that power in the moment return, let that power for the future back in, power to pray and work towards your dreams. ‘Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.’ Romans 15:13. Enjoy Unlimited, our inspiring news, updates, information, events and all. Enjoy your day and the great hope set before us giving power in every moment. Enjoy! Pastor Simon Cunningham

The summer of 2012 almost turned into a new kind of eternity, a sports mania eternity with Euro 2012, Wimbledon and the London Olympics. In this new eternity I discovered Shoreline Church is packed with many world class athletes running the most incredible races. As the apostle Paul writes encouragement to us all to run a faithful race in our own lives, you will see through the pages of Unlimited incredible people running incredible races serving our fantastic community from throughout Shoreline, across our fantastic town and right around the world. If you are new to Shoreline there are many ways you can connect and get involved. Just as people all around the world have dreams of winning an Olympic gold we also have dreams for the future. Eric & Terri Houghton began to dream about launching a new ministry at Shoreline Church called Celebrate

the truth or we don`t believe that all authority in heaven and earth is his and established by him.My responsibility as a servant of God in my position as a Police Constable is made very clear to me in Romans 13:4 which says: ‘The authorities are God’s servants, sent for your good. But if you are doing wrong, of course you should be afraid, for they have the power to punish you. They are God’s servants, sent for the very purpose of punishing those who do what is wrong.

The responsibility of the Church, the followers of Christ is also made very clear to us in Matthew 28:18-20 when after his victory through his resurrection Jesus gave the great commission to his followers: ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. When attending these incidents your heart is in your mouth and with that even before you arrive on scene the thoughts of “what if” I don`t get there in time “ what if” I say the wrong thing “what if” I make the wrong move… I have learned through my experience in dealing with these situations to ignore “What if” because I find that “what if” is routed in fear and that fear is the enemy of progress it`s a trap that encourages the mind to convince the individual not to do anything leave it to someone else. What if creates situations that don`t exist and might never appear or happen. What if, fear is a liar that paralyses the individual from doing what needs to be done to save, to perform, to achieve, to reach out and to win victory for others to snatch people from death.

WHAT IS SHORELINE CHURCH? Shoreline Church is part of the wider Christian Church, one of the largest organisations in the world. Our Mission is to enrich people’s daily lives through the Good News brought by Jesus Christ, through learning together, bible training and building community. Our passion is to love and serve all. We are a Christian Church and charity located in the heart of Southport, Merseyside. We are a member of the Assemblies of God (AOG) group of churches. Shoreline Church serves the local community through providing a place of worship, pastoral care, counselling services, small groups programmes, youth projects, children’s clubs, schools work and community action. We organise fundraising to support local and national charities. We serve our global community through prayer, international

As a follower and believer of Christ I understand that “The Church” is the 1st emergency service, I say this thoughtfully with the experience I have as a Merseyside Police Traffic Constable. I know that generally the British public see the Police as the 1st emergency service and then after the Police you might consider many others before the Church as worthy of this title such as the Fire or Ambulance Service even the Coast Guard, but the Church as the 1st emergency service how could that be?. In the Traffic Department across the country we see our share of tragedies unfolding on the roads when we answer the call to attend and deal with fatal collisions, this is our duty and our responsibility.

As a Christian I see that our nation and the population of it who work for organisations such as the Police and other emergency services much like the British public we faithfully serve, are travelling on a collision course with the Lord as it is written in his word: Hebrews 9:27-28 And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

My reason for saying this is because many are not eagerly waiting for him and haven’t had their sin dealt with because we have either forgotten who it is we serve, we don`t know

What if it would be easier just not to answer the call, look the other way and not to get involved who would know? What if you were the only person that could save an individual, offer that person hope, talk them around give them an alternative? What if you were in the right place at the right time to reach out to help and save but you failed to answer the call it was easier to look or walk the other way. What if you had the answer that would make the difference bring hope and light into the mind of that person and bring to them a new reality removing the lie that they have wrongly believed. Could you imagine a member of the Police, Fire, Ambulance or Coast Guard failing to respond to save a person given all the training and equipment they posses and in addition to this the access to other resources and organisations who are equally trained and equipped to offer support to deal with almost any situation. What would you think “What If !!” you called out for help and no one came! The emergency services in our nation are there to protect and preserve life, to turn out and answer the call to save what is temporary. The value we place on life, life that is temporary, is priceless when you consider all that is provided, even to protect and save the lives of those who want to end their own. These services according to the bible in Romans 13, are the provision of God and many who work in them don`t even know it or recognise him as the Boss.

Psalm 107 puts it like this: ‘LORD, help! they cried in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. He sent out his word and healed them, snatching them from the door of death.’ How much more so is the responsibility of the Church when our work is to save the souls of men woman and children, through the simple act of sharing of the Good News of Jesus Christ, what could be more important the temporary or the eternal? I believe that both are important simply because they are connected one to the other, as we will be judged according to what we have done with our lives and if we believed in Jesus Christ who came to save the souls of men simply through the act of believing in him. Did we as believers having heard the message that saved us enter out onto the ledge of life and death and reach out to others as Christ did for us. Psalm 107 again says: ‘Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever. Has the LORD redeemed you? Then speak out! Tell others he has redeemed you from your enemies.’ Jesus answered the call to come and save he offered his life as a sacrifice for ours he died in our place giving up everything to win the greatest victory of all in order to be the answer to appease God`s wrath he became sin for us obedient even unto death. His death wasn`t a suicide, it wasn`t murder Jesus said in the gospel of John 10:17-18 ‘The Father loves me because I sacrifice my life so I may take it back again. No one can take my life from me. I sacrifice it voluntarily. For I have the authority to lay it down when I want to and also to take it up again. For this is what my Father has commanded.’

Yes we can all experience fear that is to be cowardly in our responsibility to share Christ with others , even Christ experienced fear in the garden of Gethsemane when he prayed and sweat blood before he suffered the agonising death of the cross, Luke 22:41-44 ‘He walked away, about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed, “Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” Then an angel from heaven appeared and strengthened him. He prayed more fervently, and he was in such agony of spirit that his sweat fell to the ground like great drops of blood. “Father if it is possible take this cup from me” Jesus’ heart was in his mouth when he said “ Your will be done not mine” what a Hero! Today you will walk past people in the street, stood at the till in the supermarket, sit next to them on the bus or say hello as you walk up the garden path to your neighbour, people who need rescuing will you answer the call to save as part of the 1st emergency service or will you look the other way, what excuse will you make not to answer the call to save! There is a TV show where the CEOs of large companies agree to disguise themselves to live and work amongst their employees after which the unknowing employees go and visit the head office and meet the Boss who came walked worked and lived with them without them recognising who he was, what a surprise!! Many are then rewarded because of the way that they represented the Boss and the company they represented.

As a member of the body of Christ (Church) I have a responsibility as we all do, to enter into training, to be changed, transformed and to answer the call of God to go out and win some, to share the truth of the Gospel of Christ, Romans 10:14-17 puts it like this: ‘But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!” But not everyone welcomes the Good News, for Isaiah the prophet said, “LORD, who has believed our message?” So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ. What if Jesus looked the other way or chose to ignore the call the need of mankind heading towards a lost eternity, Jesus didn`t and as my example my leader my God, how could I turn and look the other way when all around us are people stood on the edge of eternity ready to jump, ignorant of the truth. The bible says in Revelations 21:8 ‘But cowards, unbelievers, the corrupt, murderers, the immoral, those who practice witchcraft, idol worshipers, and all liars—their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulphur. This is the second death.’

In our nation today in organisations such as the Government Police, Fire Service and the Church the name of our Boss The CEO who as Roman 13 says is the one who has established all Authority, God being Jesus, his name is so often misused by word and action as we fail to answer the call and honour him in our duty to serve. When all is revealed about our lives our service will we be found wanting will we be left saying What If, or shall we say together Father Your Will Be Done! Get into training and answer the call today! Daniel Holdsworth (Police Officer)

FOCUS ON SHORELINE HOUSING, SOUTHPORT HOMELESS CHARITY Shoreline Housing MAKING HOMELESSNESS HISTORY IN SOUTHPORT. Thirteen years ago, two members of Shoreline Church - Peter Cunningham and Vicki Woodley were so taken by the plight of Southport’s homeless population that they decided to put their money into action in an attempt to meet the needs of the poor and disenfranchised. Green Pastures Social Enterprise was born. Moving forward, little can they have imagined that their vision of eradicating homelessness in Southport would expand to become a vision to eradicate homelessness across the country. Over time, Green Pastures has improved its operation due to the national demand it has created, employing professional staff covering all aspects of the operation. It now acts as a hub for its 32 partners across the country,

receiving investment and providing homes and support for over 400 people. Over the 13 years, over 1100 people’s needs have been met, many moving on to become self sufficient. Green Pastures is now registered with the FSA and offers loan stock investments at 5% return As Green Pastures has evolved into an award winning national Social Enterprise it has now renamed its original Southport operation to Shoreline Housing. The staff, volunteers, offices and church connection remain the same. Shoreline Housing provide homes to over 200 formerly homeless and disenfranchised people in Southport. Historical fears of attracting homeless people to Southport have not materialised. After 13 years the project has matured into a sustainable organisation that does not rely on grants or gifts. Since its inception the intention was to provide homes

and support to the most needy of our town, without the need for financial hand outs to operate. Over the years other good projects have struggle due to grant funding cut backs but this has not happened with Shoreline Housing. Gifts are of course gratefully received and assist helping people establish themselves in our town and our local society. Recently, Shoreline Housing has started its ‘Welfare to Work’ programme called Pathways, which encourages its tenants to become involved in voluntary gardening, furniture delivery and property maintenance. Pathways engages Shoreline Housing tenants and is also a service for the inhabitants of Southport. The aim is to see each tenant become self sufficient, learn new skills, gain confidence and become fully integrated into our local community.

the opportunity to find their dignity once more, allowing them to rediscover who they really are and helping them to re-establish themselves fully into the communities in which they live. Sometimes that can mean a challenge against the injustices they face, sometimes just a shoulder to lean on, but always looking to enhance life skills and life opportunities.” Shoreline Housing is part of the incredibly active Shoreline Church and will continue to develop its community work with the poor and disenfranchised of Southport. Family Meal THE SHORELINE FAMILY MEAL is a great way of catching up with the wider church ‘family’ over a sunday lunch. On the first Sunday of every month a team of volunteers prepare a free buffet-style lunch. The Bible talks so much about gathering together and God (through Jesus) was very much at the centre of many meals and banquets taking place. ‘Church’ is not just what happens between 11:00 - 12:30, but it is everything we do; come along, socialise and get connected. Cleaning Team In our home, our work place, almose where ever we go, we know the vital job that needs to be done consistently, that fantastic word CLEANING. How grateful we are that we have five cleaning teams that faithfully serve us all in cleaning our ‘home’ - Shoreline Church. It is as though Angels from Heaven arrive every week making windows sparkle, surfaces gleam and as though the carpet is newly laid because the hovering is so good. But no, it is not Angels that give our church that wonderful appearance, but people like you and me that give just that 1 hour every five weeks. There is something great in working together, and something mighty in giving ourselves to God.
