Dreams of Florence

The great theme of 2014 is represented by the definition and stylistic reassessment of “New Elegance. How do we do so with some noble, special, very particular materials to become naturally,to express ourselves as precisely as possible in any situation, contemporary at every event that we attend? Natalia Vasiliev addresses this fundamental theme for the new season by exploring a repertoire style based on simplicity, convenience, natural, flawless and subtlety and a developed study of volumes of the unexpected combinations of materials, all coupled with refined details and accents ,which is already a signature of the designer. 2 2

“Dreams of Florence” by Natalia Vasiliev is a typical Tuscan story of spiritual discretion and chromatic Florentine chapels, and of unique light aristocracy in Europe. Along with Natalia Vasiliev collection you will feel what means a soiree in the gardens above the town, just like the sunrise is seen through Chapel Medicis stained glass windows or the sunset over the river and Ponte Vecchio, just like Raphaelite painters led human into divine and craftsmen brought angelic to daily, as only great artists could do. Therefore let us spend a “neo-modern “ Florentine and post-Renaissance, noble and “tomorrow” spring summer 2013 collection along with Natalia Vasiliev.

The latest collection by Natalia Vasiliev 2013-2014 is inspired by Barcelona, by that Catalunya fundamental axis that starts up in Guell Park, pulsing like a heart beneath Esplanade’s columns, descending into almost drained rocks of the Sagrada Familia, to complete majestically on the beach and then into the sea. Each overall clothing is such a dense and ethereal dialogue between strong and weak, between transparent and opaque between continuous contrasts. It focuses on a masterfully sunset color palette in which all tones are composed and recomposed in endless shades. The woman imagined by Natalia Vasiliev for 2013 - 2014 is a modern Gala in which Dali is found dispersed in each cell and she oscillates endlessly between fleeting love for Paris, marked by Paul Elluard and her eternal love for surrealism, for a rough and sensual Catalunya simultaneously. The entire collection is watched, masterly, by a Gaudi mentor that that can be found in almost every piece. Catalunya - the main focus of Europe next year - is interpreted and recomposed for us in the crossing between 2013 and 2014 collection by Natalia Vasiliev .

14th AXDW was completed with great success, showing the new trends of fashion for next season on the catwalk, while leaving the best impressions to the thousands guests that visited her! With a crowd of thousand glamorous guests the 14th International Fashion Week of Athens, Athens Xclusive Designers Week, was completed at Megaro Ethnikis Asfalistikis, with the presentation of the collections of 23 important Greek and international designers for Spring/Summer 2014 and many side events. Panos Papadopoulos, the Greek designer that works in Sweden and overseas with the brand PANOS EMPORIO, brought a summer breeze on the AXDW catwalk with one of a kind swimsuits and summer creations. The spectator’s eyes turned to the impressive beauty of Evangelia Aravani, who opened the fashion show. This show is the 1st official presentation of the PANOS EMPORIO collection in Greece and was accompanied by the presentation of the line of his three new perfumes! The accomplished Greek designer Makis Tselios, surprised the crowd with his summer collection, Collection Atelier 2014 for men and women, influenced from the 1920s-2930s. Long silky kimonos and crepe satin dresses and muslins done up with lace, with an over ruling tone of white, were accompanied by live jazz-swing music of Star Motel band. The eccentric Deluxe Street Wear creations and the accessories for men and women of the collection Apostolos Mitropoulos for Underground and the Ancient Greek concept of the Underground collection stole the impressions and enthusiased the event’s guests. Laskaris reserved for his guests a dreamy show filled with romance: ethereal presences, mermaids taken from fairy tales and complete female creations with transparencies in light tones and handmade details moved the guests to an imaginary atmosphere directed by Bessie Malfa! The show was framed by the soprano Basia Zaharopoulou and the music by Tasos Xatzis. The highlight of the show was the presentation of Fani, the 13 year old girl from Make-A-Wish of Greece that wished to become a designer and that came true with the help of Laskaris who took upon himself to make two designs belonging to the little girl and also the dress she would be wearing: Fani’s parents were so proud of her at the point where she walked on the stage in her beautiful pink dress, as all designers do in the finale of the show, a fact that didn’t only move Fani but also the crowd!

If he passed you by on the street you will definitely take a glance and then practically break your neck staring back at him as he walks on. Adrian Garzon has a charming quality that is innate and has a unique magnetism. Watch out Adrian Garzon will become a familiar name for you. Shimmer had a chance to chat with Adrian. Adrian has teamed up with Grammy-wining composers and producers for his album “Clipped Wings”. His first single “The Night is Mine” has a catchy beat and make this track my new favorite. When did you start singing? First I started acting when I was 14 years old back in Spain. And then when I moved to New York three years ago, I started taking singing seriously and professional. I always had this big passion for both. Nowadays, I try to juggle both as I believe they are compatible.

Just look me up on IMDB and you will see my acting credits. So yes I feel really good about the acting side. Right now I´m working on a documentary “Music Education in Children” and reading some scripts. At the moment music is my priority, but I will be in some acting things in the future. What would you say has been your biggest break thus far? Hmmm, biggest break. That’s hard to say. I would say that my biggest break is that, I got introduced to Oscar winner Producer John Peverall for “The Deer Hunter” which won several Oscars including “Best Picture” starring Robert De Niro and Meryl Streep. I was only 17, when I first met John and gave me the best coaching for acting. I´ll always cherish his friendship. Unfortunately, he´s not longer with us. And another break for me was when I got the chance to collaborate with an amazing Grammy winning producer, composer which I am not going to mention his name for his privacy sake. We are friends now. He´s helped me take my songwriting from good to great.

How would you describe your music? My music is R&B Pop but perhaps some people might see me as a Pop artist. I dare to think I have my own unique style both in music and voice. At least this is what I aim to have. I don´t try to follow anyone´s footsteps. I know you’ve been rubbing shoulders with celebs as you work your way up. Any one you What about your dancing? Is there another tal- have genuinely been star struck in meeting? ent the public doesn’t know about you yet? I get invited to tons of events and meet celebs I wouldn’t consider myself a super great dancer. but honestly I don’t really get star struck. I move well. You can see some of my moves on Everyone just act normal and most of them my upcoming video. I do have some rhythm, are well grounded. So it´s not a big deal. hahaha I can play guitar, piano but basically I What excites me is the crafting not the peram singer and songwriter. son. What would your dream collaboration be? I see you are not only a musician but also an My dream collaboration, I would say, JayZ, actor. What have you acted in? Usher, Beyonce, Rihanna, James Morrison. Do you have future plans set in stone for your And on the big screen Johny Depp, Angelina acting career? Jolie, Scorsese, Spielberg, etc. and countless others.

You moved from Barcelona to Los Angeles. In which way this move has helped your career? What would be your advice to an upcoming artist who is trying to make it? Yes, actually first I moved to New York so I consider it a second home. I still have a place and my family in Barcelona. Moving first to NYC and then to LA has been really positive in so many ways.

I think the best for any artist is to be all over if you can. I think if you want to be successful in the music industry, you have to meet people all over. Just being in one city is not enough. If someone is in a small town, they you can use the power of social media to establish yourself. At the end of the day it really depends how bad you want it.

Adrian, you have traveled a lot, where do you think is the most romantic place in the world? I don´t see really places as being romantic, I think the special person you are with is the romance. If two people are romantic with each other, you could be in the garage and it might be one of the most romantic times in your life! (smiles) Speaking of ideal places, is Barcelona an ideal destination for a summer vacation? Of course! I love Barcelona and it´s ideal any time of the year and definitely a summer spot. It´s great beaches, excellent food, wine and the nightlife is just great and of course the weather. Barcelona is really a very cosmopolitan city.

Miss Teen Nevada Latina Natalie Rosas How long have you been competing in pageants? Umm, I’ve competed in a couple of pageants. Not yearly periods but I’ve done in like two or three pageants, since I was about 15 years old. What does winning Miss Teen Nevada Latina mean to you? It means a lot because I can represent girls my age and girl of my heritage and you know it’s very empowering to people especially girl in my age group because we have all odds against us. With Latina girls we have those stereotypes. I like to think of myself as a mole model to other girls. It’s a little bit of pressure but its good pressure. How important is empowerment of women and teens in the Latin and Hispanic community? In every culture empowerment is important, I think women need, and lack self-esteem. That’s why we have issues of rushing to getting into relationships, rushing to get pregnant, rush to this, you know. Our platform is domestic violence, I’ve been learning a lot about that and we learn about how women allow it, they allow but they don’t the pain. But they don’t want their partner to get in problem. And all of that, results back to self-esteem. I think that’s a big issue, especially with women. Are there any new traditions that you see coming in the future? New traditions… I know when are expanding. We’re getting a lot more attention then we use to, especially this year has been big for us. And we’ll continue to grow, that basally what I think. We’ll expand, we’ll represent of country even more, in every state, across the world, taken over. [Laugh] On the Miss Latina websites there is a saying “More than a Model… a Role Model.”

How is this statement true in your everyday life? I think it’s very true because as I said earlier it’s gives good pressure. Not only to look good but to take care of yourself, stay healthy and eat right. And not just to care of your looks you know, take care of your hair, take care of stuff like that, but that’s not the most important thing. That’s just the physical. When it comes to being a role model it’s more like, you have to give someone a reason to talk to you, give someone a reason to look up to you. If someone just looks at your picture, then they going to be like, oh she’s cute, but how many people are cute… You have to stand out, do something different, be different, be yourself and maintain your class and all that. That’s what I think a role model is. What is your message to young Latin and Hispanic who inspire to me the next Miss Teen Nevada Latina? My massage is sí se puede! [Laugh] Because a lot of us have the odds against us. We compare our pageants to other pageants. A lot of times they’re not looking for Latina women. They’re looking for a different face, different traditions. We have very distinct traditions and I think a good message to all the girls would be to do it, you know. This is your place, this is your comfort zone, this is somewhere for you to be yourself, express your traditions, and do it. Why not… What’s next for Natalie Rosas? Next I’m going to be president. [Laugh] I’m just kidding. Umm, model for as long as I can. I want to until they kick me out. I am studying, I want to get my Bachelors in Business and I want to open a café. Apart from all that, I want to open up a dance crew but for girls.

Natalie Rosas

“Empowerment is the key to Life” I’m very focused on girls. And I want to be an entrepreneur and start a non-profit organization for the empowerment of teenagers because that is where it all starts, guys and girls, you need to educate both because guys need to learn how to treat women, you know. When you teach guys how to treat women from a early age, we can prevent problems from happening. When you teach girls to empower themselves, you’re eliminating future problems. So that’s what I want to do. Empowerment is the key to life!

Idania Romerez

Miss Nevada Latina Idania Romerez How long have you been competing in pageants? My first pageant I get it when I was 13 I’ve competed in five, I’ve won four, And I’ve been runner-up, Actually I’ve computed in six, I competed in Miss US Latina, So when you win Nevada you go and compete in nationals. The state pageant is a preliminary For the national competition, So I guess second runner-up for the national competition. Which is good, it’s the first time Nevada Has ever gone to nationals. That’s my landmark and I was very proud of. What does winning Miss Nevada Latina mean to you? It’s great you know, I love it, I’m really proud to be able to represent my culture and my heritage. I’m a very strong Latina. I’m really stuck to my culture and roots and how I was raised. It was a great opportunity to represent all Latina’s in Nevada and it was a good opportunity to represent Nevada in nationals. It was great I love it I love pageants. People think that pageants are I just the glitz and glamour and dressing up but it’s way more than that. It’s like you’re representing your state and everyone in the best way possible.

How important is empowerment of women and teens in the Latin and Hispanic community? It’s very important, Especially here in the United States as I represent all the Latinos here in Nevada. The Latinos are the biggest minority here in United States and I feel it is a very important to keep misconceptions of what many stereotype Latinos of doing bad things and Latina Girls get pregnant at age 16. I want to prove that to be incorrect, It’s a good way to be a role model. Having the skill of feeling and being empowered is a good way to prove that all Latinas can make a difference and are positive and can make a major difference in this country.

It is important because it supports our platform which is domestic violence and it’s a great way to get back to the community and show that we are young Latinas in support of this as there’s a big Latino population that are going through domestic violence.

What is your message to young Latin and Hispanic who aspire to be the next Miss Nevada Latina? Definitely always stay true to yourself. I know its kind a cliché in the pageant world, it’s very easy for it to get to your head. You have everyone looking up to you and there is so much attention given to you with hair, makeup, photographers, it is very easy for all this to go to your head. When you’re in a pageant especially when it’s You mentioned being a role model and Nationals this is the easiest place to let all this go to your head. Model Jessa Cygan How long have you been modeling? I have been doing runway since January 2013 and editorial, print, and commercial since June 2012. What is you favorite kind of modeling and why? Modeling in general is my favorite thing to do and I love it all from the adrenalin rush that you get when you’re walking on the runway to the fierce and fun photos you get from commercial shoots. But behind the scenes is the best. I always find myself dancing and laughing and making jokes with the photographers, models, directors, makeup artist, hair stylist, designers, and everyone who’s on set or back stage. What time in your modeling career is your favorite so far, and share why please? My favorite time in my modeling career is participating in Fashion Week Las Vegas. I met so many amazing people and designers from all over the world. Modeling is like a spiderweb, you start somewhere and you keep webbing out and meeting new people that teach you so much and they help you out and then you get more jobs from that then its just an ongoing masterpiece that in my mind is like a spider web. But without Fashion Week Las Vegas I would not be where I am at today. It’s the center of my web. What would you say is the most disappointing moment in your modeling career? I like to look at the positive side of disappointing experiences. Let’s face it we all get let down. But I choose to take it more as a challenge. Not everyone is going to like your look but it builds character and strength. Strength to have confidence, strength to challenge myself, and strength to pick myself back up when I get knocked down. This isn’t an easy industry but I’m giving it all I got. What is it about modeling the makes you continue? It wasn’t until modeling that I started having confidence in myself. Before I was a little shy, went with the flow, and I cared a lot about what people thought about me. Modeling has brought me out of my shell and I can go up to anyone and talk to them about anything. I have learned so many life lessons and it has blessed me with new friends and fun experiences. What is next in the future for you, any new projects? I hope there is a lot in the future. I love what I do and this is truly my passion. I’ve been doing catalog shooting and runway with a couple magazine surprises too. (See below) Tell us your most amazing destination experience! I must say when I held the Shimmer magazine with my picture on the cover it was the most amazing feeling in the world!!! I felt so accomplished. QUINN WILLIAMS

FWLV SEASON 3 Emerging Runway Model Winner What made you want to go into modeling?

I have always been told I should be a model but I didn’t have the confidence in myself to try. I finally decided to take a leap and go for it this past year, and I quickly realized it was something I could see myself doing. There are so many different kinds of beauty that exist in this world and I want to be that model that encourages other models to take a leap and show their beauty as well! Fashion is so unique and being able to show designs from all over the world is just another form of showcasing art! I love being a part of it all. It’s fast paced and ever changing and I couldn’t see myself in a better position to be successful!

Was this always your first career choice?

Modeling wasn’t always my career choice, in fact I wanted to be a Physical Therapist after my volleyball career ended to injury! It is truly amazing how life changes in one year. I can’t wait for my modeling career to take off!

What other models do you feel are inspiring and you look up to, to better your craft?

It may be cliché but I love Tyra Banks. I think what she has done for young women all over the world is inspiring. Her attitude is so humble much like my own. Not only does she have this amazing modeling career, she has taken her creative talents to all new levels with her television shows. I think her way of showing that confidence is beauty has really helped me learn to embrace my imperfections. I’m still learning and continue to grow into my imperfections but I hope I get the chance to meet her one day to just say “thank you!”

What kind of model you feel is your strongest, runway, print, commercial, high fashion? I still have a long way to grow in all aspects but right now my strongest points are runway and print.

What has been the weirdest crazy question someone had asked you, regards to fashion modeling?

There have been some funny conversations but, someone asked if it was a requirement for modeling to be anorexic to which I replied “are you kidding, I love food too much for that!” Another person asked if they could call me their girlfriend, and proceeded to ask for an autographed model card so when I get famous they could sell it!

What has life been like after Fwlv Season 3?

So far it’s been busy! I have been finishing my last semester of school, working, and getting calls for modeling here and there. I have had some great shoots, booked a couple runways and I am networking to build up my portfolio! I am beyond excited about where the ENVY agency is going to take me in this upcoming year as well!

Describe your feelings emotions that moment your name was announced as the winner of FWLV Seasons 3 Runway Emerging Model Competition?

To be honest I didn’t believe it! I wanted to jump up and down but I didn’t think it would be appropriate in heels and a dress! Hearing “congratulations, you deserved it!” from ENVY manager Daniel and Krista White from ANTM was so surreal! I really had thought to myself all week “Quinn, it’s only your third runway show ever and honestly you probably won’t win so HAVE FUN and network...that’s what matters!” So that’s what I did! I had fun and met amazing people! I couldn’t have asked for anything more.... and when I heard my name at the end of it all, it was the icing on the cake!

What’s your biggest take away from Fwlv season 3? Highlight? Favorite designer to walk for?

My biggest take away was definitely the fact that I finally felt confident in myself and my modeling. I felt so beautiful in a room full of gorgeous people! I never thought I would be a signed model that people would come to for modeling advice! My FWLV highlight was finally meeting my “Instagram friend” Krista White and of course getting dolled up by Making Up Las Vegas. I don’t even think I can say who my favorite designer was! I thought they were all so incredible! I especially loved Alex Vinash, O’blanc and Thick As Thieves.

Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years as a model in your career?

I think I would be incredibly crazy to say a Victoria’s Secret Angel but sometimes it requires a bigger dream to get anywhere! A year ago I didn’t think I could be a model, so 5 years from now could be something huge! I’m just hoping that above all I am still working my modeling career and staying humbled with how far I have gotten.

Encouraging words to future models for following seasons up ahead?

Never let anyone tell you it’s impossible, remember you are beautiful, have confidence in yourself, have fun, be excited, and stay humbled. I truly believe that having a great attitude shines. People feed off of the energy you bring, so do your thing!

Are you looking forward to season 4?

I am so excited for the next season and can’t wait to meet the new designers and models! FWLV only gets better and better so I can’t wait to see what is on its way!

MACKENZIE CLAUDE

EMERGING RUNWAY MODEL WINNER

What made you want to go into modeling?

God gave me long legs, long arms and a long neck for a reason and if you have ever seen me on the basketball court you will know it definitely wasn’t to play basketball. I have always been tall, modeling is a perfect fit and I am good at it.

Was this always your first career choice?

Modeling has always been my dream career, but at 18 coming out of foster care it just didn’t seem practical. So I led successful careers in banking and the military before I felt I had the means to pursue my dream of modeling.

What other models do you feel are inspiring and you look up to, to better your craft?

When I was younger I read ‘No Lifeguard On Duty’ by Janice Dickenson. In her autobiography she talks about her turbulent childhood and how she overcame it to follow her dreams and become a successful model. I related a lot to her story and I hope to find a similar success in my own modeling career.

What kind of model you feel is your strongest, runway, print, commercial, high fashion? The taller the model the higher the fashion. I’m 6’3” baby, High Fashion all the way!

What has been the weirdest crazy question someone had asked you, regards to fashion modeling?

People will ask me if I personally think they have the look to be a model. I still haven’t found a polite way to say no.

What has life been like after Fwlv Season 3?

Life has been incredible after FWLV season 3. I immediately started booking work with my new agency Envy Model Management. I had the honor of shooting a fashion spread for FWLV designer Alex Vinash. I am currently a competing model in the Luxury Model Search competition. I also just submitted my completed application and videos for Americas Next Top Model cycle 21.

Describe your feelings emotions that moment your name was announced as the winner of FWLV Seaons 3 Runway Emerging Model Winner?

Winning FWLV’s Emerging Runway Model Competition was a very special moment for me. My two partners were in the audience so to be able to share that with them was an incredible feeling and to me the sweetest part.

What’s your biggest take away from Fwlv season 3? Highlight? Favorite designer to walk for?

My biggest take away from FWLV season 3 is an evolved sense of confidence in my modeling. I feel more confident with my runway and as a model in general. I enjoyed all the designers of FWLV, but my favorite is easily Alex Vinash. And if you don’t know who he is yet then do yourself a favor and google him.

Where do you see you’re self in the next 5 years as a model in your career?

All of my initial dreams of modeling came true this year: billboard, magazine cover, television and fashion week. I want to continue to reach new heights so I have created new goals. I would like to model in Europe, I would like to be a part of a major high fashion campaign like Prada.

Encouraging words to future models for following seasons up ahead?

If you are serious about modeling then always be the display of model behavior. By that I mean be professional, even if others around you are not.

Are you looking forward to season 4?

Absolutely I am looking forward to season 4! I am not competing this time so their is no pressure! I get to just enjoy the experience and I am going to!

What made you want to go into modeling? Being a full time photographer really peaked my interest into the world of modeling. Also, my mom was a model when she was around my age. So i guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Was this always your first career choice? I’ve always wanted to be in the entertainment business, but I never thought that i would make a full time career out of modeling.

What other models do you feel are inspiring and you look up to, to better your craft? Jon Kortajarena is definitely a model that inspires me to to think outside of the box.

What kind of model you feel is your strongest, runway, print, commercial, high fashion? This is a tough one.. I would have to say commercial and high fashion.... And runway. Its too hard to choose, i love them all.

What has been the weirdest crazy question someone had asked you, regards to fashion modeling? I worked with a photographer that asked if i would shave my eye brows off for a photo shoot.

What has life been like after Fwlv Season 3?

Life has been fast pasted after Fwlv, but i’m enjoying every minute of it. From doing runway shows, photo shoots and radio work, to getting job offers in Las Angeles CA and Atlanta GA.

Describe your feelings emotions that moment your name was announced as the winner of FWLV Social Media Model – Season 3?

I was caught off guard when they announced my name. I just stood there like “did they really just call my name?” I was amazed by all of the people that supported me.

What’s your biggest take away from Fwlv season 3? Highlight? Favorite designer to walk for?

I got to meet some really great friends from the show that i stay in contact with. I enjoyed walking for all of the designers, but my absolute favorites were Thick As Thieves Fight Co and Alex Vinash.

Where do you see you’re self in the next 5 years as a model in your career? I would like to have done several modeling campaigns throughout different countries. Transition into a full time acting career and maybe get into directing films as well.

Encouraging words to future models for following seasons up ahead? Be confident and have fun. Take time to breathe and absorb it all in.

Are you looking forward to season 4? I am definitely looking forward to the next season of Fwlv. I can’t wait to see all of the new designers. 122

FIONNE NGUYEN GEMS OF THE SEA

FIONNENGUYEN’s Gems of The Sea Spring/Summer 2014 Collection is all about the modern romance, the purity and the femininity; a contrast of soft and hard, floaty and downy inspirations from the beauty of the underwater world. The highlights of the designs are the craftsmanship behind each detail from the fabric manipulation, the beading wand the play of layers and pleats. Primary color of the season is pearl white, the fine beautiful white created from the dust in the ocean. Other complementary colors are green, earthy brown and coral accented with deep blue, fuchsia and violet. Message of the collection “Love and Preserve our Ecosystems” What is in the future for you, what ambitions do you have for your line or where do you see yourself in 2014 /2015 season? FIONNENGUYEN is striving to be accepted as a high fashion brand with the emphasis of handicraft details. We wanted to show the craftsmanship quality and how much we love and care for what you are dressing. 130

What do you feel is your best look from this collection ? This was my first idea that started the collection and also my last piece to finish. I have seen many women wearing this dress and I have to say that no one could ever look bad in it. The dress that looks good both on runway and on picture and also good for editorials. It shows the modern, the romance and the feminine beauty of the body curves. It shows the softness of the silhouette but meanwhile embraces the power of the woman from her shoulders. That is the hardness part of the dress. A classic shape accessorized with the collar that was hand manipulated emphasizes the intensive craftsmanship. That is the dress we love and many women love.

What is the next phase of your colletionwill you move the current theme or expand what you have today? FIONNENGUYEN is pushing as far as possible for craftsmanship and quality. Every piece of the collections will be always involved an artist’s hand and the designer’s skills. We, meanwhile, are planning to expand to another different line to target different market. Though we would like to keep everything now for a surprise =) What makes you a unique designer or brand.? I think what makes a unique designer is their heart. I’m doing what my heart is telling me doing and therefore the designs show. It is the personality, the love and the care that I put in every single of my pieces. Nobody could spend hundreds and hundreds of hours to do something they hate. It is the love that keeps the fire, the energy on going and getting stronger. Like I said earlier, we don’t create a piece of clothing just to sell. We create something that when people wear it, they appreciate the love and the care we put on it and help us pass it down. That is the craftsmanship quality that makes the statement. Designer Information Fionne Nguyen www.fionnenguyen.com

AUGUST 2013 DESIGNERS Having worked in the fashion industry for over 25 years, Consort62 lets Kenneth speak from his own point of view. As a working designer, he’s had to answer to various employers and their spouses. While working in New York, he made a quick retreat to Los Angeles to be nearer to his family. The often stressful and substandard work environments took a toll on his health, making him realize that there needed to be more than just a machine working in a job that sucked. Faced with ageism, sexism and racism issues, he found it rather difficult to re-enter the job force. At the same time, he also wanted to do something that he wanted to do. And that’s how Consort62 was conceived. Its come full circle, with more than just wanting to make “stuff ”, he’s found that its also important to pass down experience to others who want to do the same. As such, Consort62 has also to branch into other areas of business, including the launch of Body by Alex, a line of fitness and intimate apparel and Jewelry by Adonis, a jewelry commission to have the flavor of Consort62 represents Kenneth Chang’s totally pointed, and somewhat jaded view on life in Los Consort 62 in the form of men’s decorative Angeles. Once through ancient Uzbek cities of Bactria, Kokand, Margelan, Khiva The Great Silk Road passed. Large caravans covered a long path from Asia to Europe carrying a lot of treasures. And the main treasure was silk. During the long journey from East to West silk products passed through tens of hands and because of intensive trade the fashion for Central Asian clothing and jewelry was emerging. The Great Silk Road had played a huge role in the development of economic and cultural relations of the peoples of Western Asia, the Caucasus, Central Asia and China. It served as a conductor of the spread of technologies and innovations, including those in arts (dance, music, visual arts, architecture), religions (Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, Manichaeism) and various goods like silk, gunpowder, paper etc. Therefore, an idea to create a collection dedicated to The Great Silk Road has occurred to me. I wanted to show the huge variety of colors, fabrics and styles, the image of a girl shifted through the ages from tales about charming oriental beauties into the modern age. I wanted to show what they might be living among us, in today’s megalopolises – beautiful, bright, delicate, while remaining strict, independent, natural, fluttering like butterflies in the ensembles of light, airy skirts to the floor, in tops, embroidered manually with pearl nacre and pearl beads, in blouses made of the finest natural silk, in dresses of adras and ikat, silk and gauze, like clouds in the weave with gold threads of brocade. In dresses with elements of the cut, reminding armor of Chinese and Mongolian soldiers, also embroidered with pearls. In shining brocade costumes reminding snake scales, lace, in silk jackets, dyed in ikat technique with ornament of the 16th century, made manually in the traditional cut, which was used in ancient times in Turkistan. Hand-knitted and crocheted dresses and jackets made by hand in the technique of carpet weaving: multilayer and soft like feathers of fairy-tale birds… During the creation of the collection, following natural fabrics were used: Adras – 40 cm wide linen, Han-Atlas – 45 cm wide linen, Ekselsior of Marghelan – 80 cm wide linen, Natural gauze – 45 cm, Crepe de Chine – 80 cm. All the fabrics were produced on the territory of Uzbekistan by masters according to an old technology and were dyed with natural dyes. Products from Brocade – the linen’s width – 55 cm. These fabrics were purchased for the collection in different cities of Uzbekistan from women who collected beautiful golden fabrics for their own dowry (before the wedding) as far back as in the days of their youth in the 50-60 years of the 20th century. The brocade had been manufactured in Pakistan and Syria. The manufacture of the collection was carried out with the use of beads, Swarovski crystals, spangles and fabrics of South Korea and China. The collection combines natural fabrics, made according to an old technology, as well as fabrics made by modern technology. All of this combined with the elements of a specific cut made it possible to show that they do not lose their charm in today’s world, giving an opportunity to feel the sense of elegancy, originality and individuality, thereby continuing the traditions of The Great Silk Road.
