2.1 PROJECT BRIEF Taylors Management has approached our company with an idea of a pavilion that will house architectural and

design models for display to the university community and the public due to urgency to complete it for the upcoming International Conference to be held at the university compound. 2.2 CLIENT’S BRIEF Client

: Taylors University Lakeside Campus

Proposal

: Building a two-storey pavilion at Taylors University Lakeside Campus open parking area.

Usage

: To house selected architecture and interior design models for display to the public.

Timeline

: 6 months

Budget

: Up to RM500,000

Objective

: • Able to cater 100 –150 person at time

3.1 PROJECT SUCCESS CRITERIA 3.1.1 PROJECT TRIPLE CONSTRAINTS SCOPE •

The functional elements that when completed makes up the end deliverable for the project. The scope itself is generally identified up front so as to give the project the best chance of success. ‘Scope-creep’ should be addressed and handled effectively and efficiently

TIME • • A successful project is one being delivered on time, within budget, meet the relevant scopes and customer satisfaction. The project triple constraint is a powerful tool during the decision making of this project. The set target should be realistic and able to achieve the project’s objective. Any fluctuations to the key attributes, whether unexpected or requested by client will affect the other attribute.

Site supervision by assigned contractor with architect and engineer to ensure smooth work flow. Project to adhere strictly to the stipulated timeline of 6 months to avoid any delay on project completion. Strict adherence to Gantt Chart throughout the course of the project, any delays in the critical path will cause a ‘domino effect’ on project duration

The cost of the project consist of all resources cost, labor rates, bills of materials etc. Project cost to adhere within the given budget of RM500,000. Optimized spending on resources by reducing and reusing materials

Rain runoff from the roof is directed via the roof gutters in to the down pipes. The water is then channeled via the terrace where it passes through a filter system. Water Filter: The filter is used to remove pollutants from the rainwater collected. The filter unit consist of a chamber filled with filtering media such as fibre, coarse sand and gravel layers to remove debris and dirt from water before it enters the storage tank. Flush Diverter: The pollutants are then routed away from the storage tank. The diverter is designed to be filled with contaminated water. Water Tank: the filtered water will be channeled in to the water storage. Water Pump: The absence of gravitational force requires the use of water pump to distribute the harvested water into the designated areas.

Conventional cost = RM 610,201.00 Alternative cost = RM 517,575.00

The reduction cost between the alternative cost and conventional cost is 84% . The alternative cost was managed to achieve by implementing the usage of recycled materials,items and cheaper types of materials such as recycled wood and second hand containers. By incorporating energy saving items such as solar panel and rainwater harvesting, the pavilion will able to save more cost on the electricity. Furthermore, with the proposed greeneries by the landscape architect, it will be able to act as an alternative for reducing the use of electrical appliances such as the wall fan. By taking into consideration the other alternative and materials that can be use for the pavilion, we are able to achieve the alternative cost which is RM 517,575.00 and still within the budget.
