ShelterBox will only distribute aid on the basis of need, when local capacity is overwhelmed, and within safe and achievable operating parameters.
ShelterBox responds to a new disaster every two weeks, on average. The most common global disaster is flooding. Conflict is second.

Deployment Essentials Provides support for all costs associated with ShelterBox worldwide deployments, including but not limited to: lifesaving equipment, response teams, transportation, and collaboration with local or international partners. Syrian Refugee Crisis Provides direct support to all costs associated with the ongoing response within Syria and other affected countries/ territories, including but not limited to: lifesaving equipment, response teams, transportation, and collaboration with local or international partners.
ShelterBox has deployed in the United States following Hurricane Katrina, Superstorm Sandy and the tornados in Oklahoma and Arkansas. PREPARING EVERYDAY FOR THE
ShelterBox is an international disaster relief charity that provides immediate emergency shelter and other lifesaving aid to survivors of a disaster or humanitarian crisis. ShelterBox is a Project Partner of Rotary International and typically works in collaboration with many other international partners to coordinate each response effort.
STANDARD CONTENTS OF A SHELTERKIT: Essential tools to repair or rebuild
ShelterBox aid is tailored to each disaster but typically includes tented shelter, thermal blankets and groundsheets, water purification equipment, solar lights, cooking utensils, a tool kit, mosquito nets and children’s activity packs. Sometimes specific equipment is sent in bulk because essential needs of disaster survivors can vary based on the type and scale of the crisis. This also maximizes donor dollars, ensuring that what is sent is actually needed and culturally appropriate. ShelterBox Response Team (SRT) members are civilian volunteers who deploy with the aid and ensure it is delivered to the survivors that need it most. The work of ShelterBox is made possible through the ongoing contributions from individuals, foundations and corporations.
A response team is activated and aid is moved as close as possible to the disaster site
Aid is then transported by any means available, by truck, boat, camel, sled or by hand
Response teams work with the local community to identify the most vulnerable to receive aid first
