Shelby County RSVP Retire to Inspire April 2010 Please share information in the newsletters with your volunteers. Because of financial restrictions we are not able to do mass mailings to our volunteers. Please obtain any email addresses for your volunteers. We plan to automate the newsletter in the future. Our newest volunteer stations are American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, Alabama Wildlife Center, and the Alabama 4-H Center. Relay for Life is being held in five locations in Shelby County. Your group is encouraged to form a team to participate at one of these locations. Hoover - April 30 & May 1 - Hoover High School Oak Mountain – May 7 & 8 - Oak Mountain High School West Shelby (Calera, Alabaster, Montevallo) – May 14 & 15 – Oliver Park, Calera South Shelby (Columbiana, Wilsonville, Chelsea, Harpersville, Vincent, Westover) – May 21 & 22 – Columbiana Sports Complex North Shelby (Pelham, Helena) – June 11 & 12 – Pelham High School Contact Kylee Patrick, ACS Rep, email@example.com or 918-3212 Alabama Wildlife Center is located at Oak Mountain State Park. The program rehabilitates wildlife and operates educational programs. The Center needs volunteers in animal/bird care, cleaning cages, office, reception center, maintenance, a volunteer coordinator, tours, and marketing. There are several shifts available. The Alabama 4-H Center operates the Coosa River Science School program. The Center includes education and programming for 4-H and youth development. Volunteers will work out of the Environmental Science Education Center allowing for hands-on, experimental, environmental education experiences, and outdoor/indoor maintenance of wildlife exhibits, trails, and wildlife feeders. The Heart of Dixie Railroad still needs volunteers for the Thomas the Tank Engine days – April 9, 10, 11, 17 & 18. This is an urgent appeal for assistance. Volunteers are needed for the Alabama 4-H Achievement interviews. Volunteers will hear presentations by statewide 4-H members on April 24 from 8 a.m. until noon. Here is an opportunity to work with some of the top young people in Alabama. The Shelby County Senior picnic is scheduled May 20 from 9 to 1 p.m. at the Shelby County Airport. See the flyer of the back for details. Reminder your volunteers to submit their Census 2010 form ASAP if they have not already done so.
