Importance Levels The Building Code of New Zealand nominates that buildings must be designed in accordance with certain criteria referred to as Importance Levels (IL).
Buildings designed to the wrong importance level can result in certifiers refusing occupation of your premises.
Importance level 1 Buildings presenting a low degree of hazard to life and other property in the event of failure, for example farm buildings.
Importance level 2 Buildings not included in 1, 3 or 4, for example houses.

Haunch System ▪ 450-550 MPa cold-rolled New Zealand Steel ▪ Designed to strengthen the rafter-over-column haunch joint and prevent axial torque (twisting). ▪ Knee brace provided to strengthen the haunch connection in the most critical area of the building.

Fabricated portal building systems For larger projects, Wide Span Industrial use a built up portal system in which buildings are designed to peak engineering and efficiency. These built up design sections along with balanced connections utilise the best of compression, tension and offset engineering techniques for structural efficiency. A fabricated built up structure engineered to peak efficiency can be lighter than conventional steel building by up to 30% resulting in significant savings for the building overall.
