Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. to inform SSU students

SAVANNAH STATE UNIVERSITY – The Delta Alpha Chapter of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. will hold an informational event on Monday, November 7, 2016 at 4 p.m. to bring awareness to Savannah State University students. There will be a table located in the Student Union Atrium on campus. Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. members will distribute brochures for students to learn more about the organization. Afterwards, students will have the opportunity to take a look at the organization’s new commercial, speak with Chapter members and engage with the organization on Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter. “It will be a fun informational event where we can include social media and students will have fun taking pictures. We are excited to meet these students,” organization president, Ayanna Forrester says. The event will bring students together with similar interest in the business and professional sectors, as well as highlight Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. and what they offer to the female student body. ### About Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. The Savannah State University chapter of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. was chartered by the Nu Chapter in 1974 on the campus of Savannah State College, and reactivated in the fall of 2002. The Nu Chapter was the first graduate chapter to charter an undergraduate chapter. Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. was founded by Lola Mercedes Parker, who in 1929, saw the need for African Americans to learn new skills for a better life. There are more than 60 chapters with an approximate membership of 1,000 stretching across the width and breadth of the United States in 55 cities, representing 31 states, the District of Columbia, and the Virgin Islands.

by African American business women. Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. was founded by Lola Mercedes Parker, who in 1929, saw the need for African Americans to learn new skills for a better life.

It is a national business and professional sorority which seeks to unite in sisterhood qualified business

and professional women in order to enhance and improve the status of women in our highly complex, competitive business and professional world, promote increased interest in the broad field of business education among high school and college young women through planned programs and scholarships, encourage the development of personal goals and leadership potential, and establish and promote civic and social service activities for youth and adults.

SERVICE INITIATIVES AND PROGRAMS: Chapters and members of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority implement and execute programs and projects throughout the year to further the aims and ideals of the organization. Members assist the educational system by providing remedial help for those with academic weaknesses, and work to eliminate illiteracy, help broaden youths’ awareness of career opportunities and assist in preparing them for the world of work, help educate communities about teen pregnancy and develop effective action agendas for preventing children from having children, provide outreach services to meet the needs of teen and disadvantaged mothers, and mentor preteen and teenage girls and boys. Every year, the organization is fully dedicated to participate in American Education Week and Black History Month. Additionally, Iota Phi Lambda sorors foster sisterhood during their Correspondence Week every year, and focus on efforts to stimulate interest in business education and to recognize to those who have made outstanding achievements in the field of business during their Business Month.
