DOWNERS GROVE – Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital was named one of the 100 Top Hospitals in the nation March 3, as well as a winner of the Crystal Award for making the list five times. Good Samaritan Hospital is one of nine hospitals in Illinois named to the list, published by Truven Health Analytics, formerly the healthcare business of Thomson Reuters. The annual 100 Top Hospitals study evaluates hospitals on overall organization performance, including patient care, operational efficiency and financial stability, according to a news release. It compares hospitals against similar facilities in terms of size and teaching status. Good Samaritan Hospital was among nearly 3,000 shortterm, acute care, non-federal hospitals evaluated by Truven Health, according to the release. The study has been conducted annually since 1993. The winning hospitals were announced in the current edition of Modern Healthcare magazine. “The results show 100 Top Hospitals to be strong, well-managed hospitals with consistently high performance. This year, 59 percent of the 2014 100 Top Hospitals were winners last year,” Truven Health Analytics senior vice president of 100 Top Hospitals Programs Jean Chenoweth, said in the release. According to the release, if all Medicare inpatients received the same level of care as those treated in the award-winning facilities, more than 165,000 additional lives could be saved. Nearly 90,000 additional patients could be complication-free. The average patient stay would decrease by nearly half a day.
