Park district announces winners of film festival
WESTMONT — The Westmont Park District, in conjunction with the Progressive Village Performance Network theater group, hosted its first Frozen Film Festival Feb. 2224, featuring movies created by Chicago-area filmmakers. The event allowed local filmmakers to showcase their work for a live audience, and prizes were awarded for the top films in each category, including drama, animation and comedy. Each category had winners for first place, runner-up and honorable mention. Among the winners were Joy Jones, who won Best Picture of the festival for her film, “What About Chrissy?” Other top winners for each category included: for animation, “Four of a Kind” by Matthew Bolland, Jones for “What About Chrissy?” in the drama category, and best comedy went to “Beauty and Deceased” by Andrew Hempfling. Runner-up awards were presented to Matt Peace for “Mr. Gloom” for the drama category, The Zephyr Academy of Arts for the “Battle of Bum-
bleburg” for animation, and the runner-up in the comedy category went to “Grandma’s Peer Pressure,” also by Jones. Honorable mention awards were also given to John Tischke for “Rivalry” and Michael Forzley for “An Unconventional Duel,” both in the animation category, Forzley for an untitled piece in the drama category and Hempfling for “Nightshift” in the comedy category.
Westmont to hold candidates forum
WESTMONT — As in years past, the village of Westmont is coordinating a candidates forum so residents and voters can hear from candidates running for local elected offices in the April 9 Consolidated Election. The forum will be moderated by the Elmhurst League of Women Voters and will be from 6 to 9 p.m. tonight at the Westmont Village Hall, 31 W. Quincy St. The public is invited to attend and participate by submitting written questions to the moderator. This forum will be recorded and played back on the local Comcast Channel and will be posted on the village’s website and YouTube Channel.
