Two different brands of running shoes – Asics and Brooks – are moving quickly in sales as well, especially the ones in brighter colors. “Nike shoes go well, too,” Harts said, and are also now available in brighter colors, “and that brand is always a good seller year round because of the quality.” For the hard-to-please, Finish Line offers a selection of licensed sportswear, especially featuring Bears, Bulls, Cubs and other local teams, along with Air Jordan shirts and apparel. “Any clothing that features area sports teams is a sure hit,” Harts said. Dunham Sports, Northland Mall’s newest addition, anticipates high sales in licensed sports wear as well, manager John Watts said. “Our apparel selection is huge with the licensed brands and lines we carry,” Watts said. “We have the most extensive selection of team-wear available, with all the local teams through collegiate and pro sports as well.” Sporting goods and equipment of just about any kind imaginable will make popular gift items this year, Watts said, and

the ease of finding the right items for just about anyone on a gift-giving list, he said. “We carry an extensive inventory of team apparel as well, and that seems to be selling really well right now, too.” Flashy attire is on the hot-sellers list at Downtown Sports in Dixon. “We’re expecting a lot of new hockey-style hooded sweatshirts this season, with a lot of glitter designs, rhinestones and embroidery,” manager Kim Deery said. With an emphasis on local high school teams, Downtown Sports is always a big draw for families with kids in school as well as area sports enthusiasts, Deery said. “We feature a lot of team bags, shirts and sweatshirts for local area schools, and they are very popular this year,” she said. Custom design is also a specialty of the store, she said. “We do a lot of digital screening and embroidery on sportswear, and we can work with rhinestones and foil for a more flashy, colorful look, too.” The store stocks a lot of standard items, “so you can just walk in and find what you need without waiting for it, but customdecorated apparel is our No. 1 thing.”
