Fun activities for kids Oct. 4-5

Historical museum is open Oct. 4 The Ogle County Historical Society will offer tours of the Ruby Nash Museum and Carriage House on Saturday, Oct. 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The museum, which includes historical artifacts from Ogle County, is located on the corner of Sixth and Franklin Streets. “Over the last two years we have installed new displays in many of the cases in the annex and also rearranged items in several rooms of the house creating a better traffic flow,,� said president Bill Bailey. “New, more easily readable signs have been added in many places to enhance the visitor experience.� The Ogle County Historical Society began in 1954 as a project of the Ogle County Federation of Women’s Clubs. Kids will not want to miss the Autumn on Parade Fun Zone, held in partnership with the Oregon Park District. This event is located just a few steps north of the Ogle County Courthouse Square, next to the Oregon Coliseum. Activities will be offered on Saturday, Oct. 4 and Sunday, Oct. 5 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. New this year is a Boot Camp Challenge Obstacle Course operated by Kid Again Inflatable Shows. Midwestern prairie-type architecture; square, with long porches and high ceilings. His daughter, Miss Ruby Nash, taught school for 50 years from 1891 to 1941. Nash School in Oregon was named after her. The site of the original school is now the Nash Recreation Center and is owned and operated by the Oregon Park District. Donations are gratefully accepted and will be used for upkeep of the museum.

“Please come and join us on Saturday and watch for our float in Sunday’s parade. It will feature Ruby Nash and students along with the bell from the Nash School, which will later find a permanent home on our lawn,� Bailey said. Volcano Adventureland and Spiderman inflatables and a Lil’ Builders Toddler Zone, will also be offered. Wristbands are needed for entry to Fun Zone activities. Wristbands are $5 prior to the festival weekend and $8 during the festival. Advance sales are available at the Nash Recreation Center in Oregon. The Oregon Park District will be providing volunteers for the Fun Zone ticket booth this year.

The park district has also created a special Autumn on Parade photo backdrop where kids, and adults, can pose for that unique photo to remember your visit to the festival for years to come. AOP postal cancellation offered Oct. 4 The United States Postal Service, Oregon Station, will offer a commemorative pictorial stamp cancellation as part of the 44th Autumn on Parade Festival. The commemorative cancellation can be placed on any item by purchasing a 49¢

stamp and adhering it to the item. Envelopes, schedules of events, festival programs or other similar items may also be stamped. The special cancellation will be offered at the Oregon Post Office located

at the corner of Fifth and Washington Streets from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 4. The commemorative cancellation is promoted through the U. S. Postal Service publication for collectors.

AOP raffle tickets help fund festival Visitors to the Autumn on Parade festival can take a shot at winning some cash while helping fund the festival by purchasing a 50/50 raffle ticket.

Tickets are available at the AOP Information Booth, located on the northeast corner of the courthouse square during the festival or from a committee member prior to

festival weekend. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. Proceeds from the event help pay for operating costs and entertainment for the Autumn on Parade festival.
