Community Clean-Up Day

T

he Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce and the Crystal Lake Park District organize this free event annually in conjunction with Earth Day; where residents, families, organizations and businesses are invited to participate in this citywide effort to clean up local streets, parks and neighborhoods.

Community Clean Up Day is a “rain or shine” event so dress for the weather! This year, volunteers will register online at the Park District (www.crystallakeparks.org) or call 815.455.1763 to be assigned a park to clean. Volunteers will be able to pick up their cleaning materials at the Chamber office or the Nature Center the week prior to the event. We will also have a paper/document shredding

truck courtesy of AMS Store & Shred, and prescription drug take-back by the Crystal Lake Police Department. Come join us on Saturday, April 17th from 8:30am – 1:00pm! Visit clchamber.com for more information.

Community Harvest

hanksgiving 2020 marked the 30th Annual Community Harvest, a community service food drive event organized by the Crystal Lake Food Pantry. Due to the pandemic restrictions, Community Harvest was done with the community donating but not sorting this year. Despite this, our community stepped up more than they ever have before with both record food and fund donations.

We could not be more grateful to the community members for all their support providing the donated food items. For many of the volunteers, including many multiple generation families, Community Harvest has become a tradition as a way to set an example for younger generations on how to be a good

neighbor and member of their community by giving back. This is how they start their holiday season.

Last year’s event was a very successful “harvest” with over 100,000 pounds of food and over $113,000 in funds donated. The Crystal Lake Food Pantry would like to thank the community for their year-round support of our efforts to feed our neighbors in need. You truly made the difference for our neighbors and their families. Next year, join the fun! Community Harvest is always open to even more volunteers, neighborhood food drives and donations. Mark your calendars for Thanksgiving morning, 2021!
