Get Ready to Party!

Enjoyable & Fun

Welcome to all of our new families, we hope you love SSD as much as we do! Thankyou to everyone who attended our Easter Festival performance, we had a great attendance and the dancers had fun which is the most important thing! During the school holidays I had the most amazing 3 days of professional development at Victorian Dance Festival which is always inspiring and great for bringing new elements to our classes. We were extremely fortunate to have The Joffrey Ballet & Travis Wall return from the USA for workshops! Some of the other professional development sessions I undertook at VDF were Anxiety, Well being, Injury prevention & safe dance practices plus so much more! We started our Term with a really powerful day as a Team working on our values, musicality, Examiners notes & expectations for ATOD exams from a recent Training day & finished with lots of fun learning new Ready Set Dance & Ready Set Ballet content for this term! We were happy to welcome our new teacher Jo, who has settled in beautifully. Our first DanceStep session followed. It is a pleasure to mentor these beautiful young role models and empower them to be leaders at SSD & beyond. I would love more dancers 10 years & over to join our small group and benefit from the DanceStep program.   We finished the day with Ready Set Dance & Ready Set Ballet Taster classes which were filled with lots of fun & joy! We are now preparing for our first ever Pre school concert- READY SET PARTY on Sunday June 23 at JB Osborne Theatre.   Our first night of term saw teaching artists from Sydney Dance Company teach our Senior Ballet and Contemporary classes! Recently we have had 2 nights as an SSD family at Ulumbarra Theatre to see Sydney Dance Company & Spark Youth Dance Company (who also ran a workshop for our senior students)!   We welcomed dancers ‘friends’ to classes and had fun showing them how we dance each week. We are now in final stages of preparing for ATOD exams next term & preparing for READY SET PARTY which will include guest performances from Test 3 Ballet, Senior Jazz & Senior Tap! Make sure you get some tickets and support this event! Keep cosy! Sharon Saunders

DanceStep

We are very excited to be a registered affiliate studio and member of the DanceStep program. Offered in partnership with studio teachers, DanceStep empowers students to take care of others and guides them to be leaders and role models. The program covers assistant teaching skills such as behaviour management, different learning needs and styles, Safe Dance Principles and Anatomy to name just a few. These concepts are broken down to be taught in a sequential and age appropriate way to children from ten or eleven years of age. Whether students are considering a career in dance teaching or otherwise, the DanceStep program is a great preparation for many aspects of life. DanceStep, a 4 level Student Teacher Education Program, builds on this philosophy and provides a progressive and formalised process including both practical and theoretical components. Participants are mentored by Sharon Saunders and learn from weekly videos from DanceStep founder Jane Grech through Movitae. Contact Sharon for details. Minimum age 10 years.

Spark Youth Dance Company Our students were lucky enough to have a Free Contemporary workshop with Director of Spark Youth Dance Company, Alex Dellaportas. The following night a group of SSD Families attended their performance of Adriane at Ulumbarra Theatre.
