What is The Oncology Business Institute? TOBI is a membership organization dedicated to providing administrators of hospital outpatient cancer centers with the information they need to ensure maximum performance through comparative benchmarking, networking, and education.

The Key to BENCHMARKS specifically for hospitalbased cancer centers. • See your performance compared to others - Nurses per chair - Therapists per linac - Registrars per case - Encounters per case - And much, much more! • Designed by oncology experts • Simple to participate • Complimentary coding and billing review

Our benchmarks are designed by oncology experts who understand your need for relevant data points that are current and applicable: • Staffing for infusion, radiation, registry, clinical trials, etc. expressed in terms of program size, equipment, encounter volumes and other measures to allow for applicability to your program. • Resources for your departments: number of infusion chairs, linear accelerators, etc. • Productivity metrics: number of patients, treatments/encounters, accruals, case abstractions. • Financial benchmarks specific to oncology: charges, revenue, etc. Our educational offerings are based on the members’ requests and driven by their data. • Topics are timely, relevant, and backed by quantitative data. • Best practices are shared by real centers, not fictitious institutions. • Sessions are interactive among the members for maximum value. Networking is greatly enhanced when everyone is speaking the same language. Because all TOBI members’ performance has been measured in precisely the same way, “apples to apples” conversations and sharing of information is guaranteed.

Finally, oncology administrators have a dedicated source that properly addresses the nuances of outpatient oncology and the differences in program size and scope. TOBI Benchmarks are based on all member organizations - not just a handful of large hospitals willing and able to pay a premium fee. They are updated annually and will never be re-circulated or re-packaged. Our benchmarks require only a simple annual survey questionnaire - never a timeconsuming, exhaustive data request. TOBI benchmarks are expressed in straightforward, useful terms – easily understood and applied. The Oncology Business Institute brings to its members clear and usable comparative data on staffing, production, and financial performance, using a simple annual survey and a completely transparent electronic data submission process that requires no additional staff time for your institution. Our members receive annual reports comparing their own data to the aggregate membership data and showing each member’s ranking among the members.

FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions Q: What is The Oncology Business Institute? A: TOBI is a membership organization dedicated to providing administrators of hospital outpatient cancer centers with the information they need to ensure maximum performance through comparative benchmarking, networking, and education. TOBI benchmarks are designed by oncology experts who understand the need for relevant data points that are current and applicable: Staffing for infusion, radiation, registry, clinical trials - Resources for cancer center departments - Productivity metrics - Financial benchmarks. Additionally, the educational offerings and professional networking are based on the members’ requests and driven by their data and are greatly enhanced because all TOBI members’ performance is measured in precisely the same way. Q: How is TOBI different from the Solucient data we are using now? A: TOBI benchmarks are defined in very clear, intuitive terms for oncology instead of confusing or highly general measures like “timed work units” or “procedures.” TOBI benchmarks also include more than staffing per the defined service volume – we look at physical resources like “per chemo chair” and “per linac” as well as at case volumes from the tumor registry. Q: What are the differences between TOBI and the Oncology Roundtable? A: We calculate your performance for you as compared to the rest of the membership rather than just showing you the performance of just one institution. And TOBI data is updated every year so you can trend it and not just rely on a one-time data point. Our education and networking topics are chosen by you the members rather than by our staff members. Additionally, all TOBI staffers are long-time oncology experts, several with decades of hospital specific expertise! Q: Is it difficult to submit our data to TOBI? A: Not at all. There is a simple questionnaire – about 20 questions – each year for you to fill out. The main data comes from an electronic upload from your billing system and most systems already have the report we need built in.

Q: Why do we need to have a chart review? A: TOBI’s success (and that of our members!) depends on receiving good, solid data from our members and we all know how hard it can be to bill oncology appropriately. So we give each new member a free chart review to be sure that the data we receive is “clean.” Q: Is our data private? A: Absolutely. Whenever the data is presented in any manner, the individual members’ identity is masked completely. Q: How often is the data updated? A: TOBI benchmark data will be run annually although in the future we may move to more frequent periods if the membership wishes. Q: What if I can’t join until late in the year because of my budget cycle? A: Not a problem! As long as your membership becomes active and the data can be transferred before analysis begins, you can be included.
