Making a great cake can really set the mood at the party. Children’s parties There are a great example because they have such fantastic imaginations. Making a cake is not for everyone, it can be a scary task when you’re limited on experience. From here we will have a brief look at some ideas which might inspire you.

Boat party cake The beauty of this concept is that you can achieve a great result quite easily by simply making the base the water and dumping a boat shaped cake on top. With the addition of a bit of decoration in the form of sweets, coloured icing and maybe a bit of sugar paper for the sails, you can quickly create something the kids will love at their party. It’s a great way to start and you might be surprised how well it turns out.

Individual cupcakes for your party The versatility of a cupcake means that it is great for both young people and the more mature generation to get their sweet tooth in to. The starting blocks are very simple and include some

shape stamps, a sheet of rolled icing in various different colours, some decorative icing for colour and a plain and simple cupcake. Cut random different sizes, shapes and colours out of the sheet icing. Arrange them in different fashions on top of the cupcakes so that each one looks a little bit different from the next. Once the colourful canvases are complete you can begin to put the finer detail and text on using the squeezey icing, perhaps writing the guest’s name would be a nice touch.

Swimming In Icing As with the previous ideas you shouldn’t find this one two hard to execute. With most of the figures swimming in the water you can disguise and avoid having to do great detail which makes this a great starting point for many. The main bulk of the cake is best suited as a rectangle for simplicity and relatability but the rest can be decorated and detailed with a mixture of sweets and cut and coloured icing. As I said before the characters are quite simple as they will be mainly submerged in the water and just need to be little floating heads. These solid lumps of icing will be the envy of many a mini party goer.

Eskimo house party cake There are plenty more ideas that can come from the igloo cake idea but it’s a good place to start you off. When baking a cake be sure to find a round baking bowl. This way the shape of the cake underneath will be perfect for your little igloo. By cladding the sponge in a layer of rolled white icing and using some it food colouring to paint on the detail and brick lines you can create a convincing Eskimo home. You can take the sheet icing leftover and created an entrance to finish the look off. This concept of using this basic shape can be used for various different styles for example if you have a friend with a bald head you could turn the top of his head into the cake.

Snake cupcake festive food Again using the idea of cupcakes if you make a load and then decorate the top of them with a green icing you can arrange them in such a way that looks like a snake, Caterpillar, dragon or anything long thin and reptile . A snake can be echoed by simply arranging them in an S shape. The head and the tail can be baked cakes and represent a greater level of detail to give the cake a better feel. The idea for this cake originally came from seeing somebody who had baked a cupcake hungry caterpillar using a larger round red cake for the head .

Hopefully now using these ideas you will be able to diversify and think up some of the many great ideas that can be used for any party or event. Try to keep the idea simple and achieve the essence of the idea rather than an exact replica. Anyway if you like cake it doesn’t really matter what it looks like!
