CLEARING THE WATERWAYS WATERWAYS AS SOLUTIONS This urban strategy aims to improve the waterways by harvesting the Water Hyacinths and converting them into usable products for financial gain. The community will be encourage to collect Water Hyacinths and deliver them at designated drop off zones where they will be payed for their harvest. The hyacinths will then be transported to 1 of 5 key sites where they can be converted into Biofuel, Bio-fertilizer, Bio-crafts or individual chemicals. This promotes greater so ial cohesion as it is encouraging the citizens to engage with their surroundings in order to better it. Furthermore this will provide them with a new economy which is based on an element of their city which once damaged their livelihoods. Furthermore this will provide improved health and flood resilience as they will have cleaner water which flows without obstruction whilst avoiding vector growth in the once stagnant waterways. Finally this will improve the environment which will overall create a more sustainable Kochi with a new defining craft and Bio-products which can be sold far and wide.
