NO FIREWORKS IN SHADOW CREEK RANCH! CODE OF ORDINANCES, CITY OF PEARLAND ARTICLE IV. FIREWORKS Sec. 10-78. Illegal fireworks as nuisance; seizure and destruction. The presence of any fireworks within the city and within the area immediately adjacent and contiguous to the city limits extending for a distance outside of the city limits for a total of five thousand (5,000) feet, in violation of this article, is hereby declared to be a common and public nuisance. The fire marshal is directed and required to seize any fireworks found in violation of this article and any authorized deputy of the fire marshal, or any police officer of the city or any other duly constituted Texas peace officer is empowered to stop the transportation of and detain any fireworks being transported illegally or to close any building where any fireworks are found stored illegally until the fire marshal can be notified in order that such fireworks may be seized in accordance with the terms of this article. Notwithstanding any penal provision of this article, the city attorney is authorized to file suit on behalf of the city, the fire marshal or both for such injunctive relief as may be necessary to prevent unlawful storage, transportation, keeping or use of fireworks within the city or such five-thousand-foot area. It shall not be necessary to obtain injunctive relief as a prerequisite to the seizure of fireworks. This section shall not apply within any portion of such five-thousand-foot rea which is contained within the territory of any other incorporated city, town or village.

Deed restrictions in Shadow Creek Ranch prohibit the use of all kinds of fireworks. The City of Pearland, by ordinance, also prohibits fireworks use. PLEASE DO NOT BRING FIREWORKS INTO Shadow Creek Ranch. The upcoming Fourth of July holiday is a great time to celebrate your patriotism, but not with illegal fireworks. All fireworks are hazardous and can cause serious injury and major property damage. They are rated as the “RISKIEST” of all consumer products and the illegal use of fireworks is a matter of public safety. The safest way to enjoy Independence Day is to attend a professional fireworks show that’s staged well out of the way of spectators, rooftops and dry brush. In Pearland, both the Police and Fire Marshal will be patrolling all areas of the city to prevent and stop illegal fireworks in our communities. Please help all residents by reporting illegal fireworks use in Shadow Creek Ranch. Call the Police Department at 281-997-4100 or the Pearland Fire Marshal’s office at 281-997-4316. Please be as accurate as possible in the location of the illegal fireworks including the address of the property in question. Your name will not be used in the investigation of fireworks violations. Violators of the fireworks ban will receive criminal citations and fines as high as $2,000. Appearance in front of a judge may be expected and other judgments may be rendered based on the seriousness of the offense. Shadow Creek Ranch deed restrictions are meant to protect all of our residents. However, they only work well if they are obeyed and enforced. Please support our Homeowners’ Association by becoming familiar with all of the deed restrictions so that we can have a safe and beautiful community. Please call the numbers listed in the newsletter for any questions you may have regarding the fireworks ban or other issues. SHADOW CREEK RANCH

JOIN US ON THURSDAYS FOR A FUN FILLED DAY OF SWIMMING, MUSIC, GAMES & PRIZES… (Games designed for pre-teens, but everyone is invited…)

Going on Vacation? Murphy’s Law for travelers: If anything can go wrong, it will go wrong while you’re on vacation -- which is arguably the worst time a household calamity can strike. Coming home from your honeymoon, African safari or Mediterranean cruise can be gloomy. But returning from a memorable journey and learning something has gone seriously wrong at home can be downright devastating. 1. Ask a Friend to Help A simple way to gain peace of mind while traveling is to ask a friend or neighbor to keep an eye on your house while you’re away.

6. Stop Your Mail Either place a “stop” order on mail and newspapers or arrange to have a friend or neighbor pick up your mail while you’re away. Just go to the United States Postal Service Web site and you can place a “stop” order in a matter of minutes.

2. Don’t Tip Off Criminals on the Web! Think twice about posting your detailed vacation plans on Twitter or Facebook, especially if that information is visible to Internet users other than your friends and family (and it probably is). Be careful what you say on your answering machine or voice mail too. Callers don’t need to know that you’re not home -- they just need to know that you can’t come to the phone right now.

7. Pull the Plug Unplug your television, computer, toaster oven and other appliances to protect them from power surges. 9. Remove Your Spare Key That plastic rock isn’t fooling anyone. If a criminal figures out you’re away on vacation, it’s likely that he or she will check your porch for a spare key. So reach under the mat, into the mailbox, above the door frame or into the flower pot and remove your spare key before you leave on your vacation.

3. Do Tip Off the Police! Always notify the police if you’re going on vacation. It’s possible the police may go out of their way to drive by your house while on patrol, especially if you live in a small town. 5. The Lights Are On But No One’s Home Don’t leave your lights on at home throughout your entire vacation in an effort to make it look like someone is in the house. Your electric bill will end up more costly than your mortgage, and, of course, leaving the lights on is not exactly “green” behavior according to a programmed schedule. SHADOW CREEK RANCH

IN SHADOW CREEK RANCH Shadow Creek Ranch is unable to enforce a no soliciting rule on public streets. All streets within Shadow Creek Ranch are public with the exception of the gated communities and are therefore governed by the City of Pearland. According to the City of Pearland you may place a small sign near your front door, perhaps in your shrub beds, that says “No Soliciting”. This puts a solicitor on alert that they are trespassing. If you still find unwanted items on or near your doorstep you can contact the distributer and let them know that you will pursue a trespassing charge if you find their materials on your property again.

• City will provide 3 signs per event, & only those signs may be used to advertise.

Again, according to the City of Pearland – small signage is your best option. Soliciting is legal providing they do not knock on your door to engage in conversation with you. If they do that, they need to have a city issued license. Please contact City of Pearland Non- Emergency for further information at 281-997-4100.

When obtaining a garage sale permit, the City provides sign placement guidelines. It’s important to follow these rules – otherwise, misplaced signs will be removed. For example, signs aren’t allowed in public rights-of-way or attached to utility poles, trees, public buildings, or street signs, and must posted no earlier than 5:00 a.m. on the first day of the event and removed by 8:00 p.m on the final day of the event.

• No more than 3 families per event. • A fee of $15.00 shall be assessed for each event. • Each participant in a community wide garage sale is required to have an individual permit. The City will post garage sale information on local cable & the City website if possible. This is a free courtesy, & not part of the permit cost or process.

Hot Weather Care for Pets Summer’s hot weather is just as tough on pets as it is on people. Here are some tips for protecting your pet: • • •

Please remember that asphalt and concrete can get very hot and burn the pads of your pet’s feet. Don’t shave off all of your pet’s hair, thinking it will keep him cool. Leave about an inch of hair - this will protect him from sunburn. During the summer many people will use pesticides and fertilizers on their lawns. Keep them away from unfamiliar lawns as this can cause severe intestinal upset if ingested. • Ensure that your pet always has fresh, cool water. • Watch out for puddles of auto coolant. Although poisonous, it has a sweet taste for animals and can be toxic. • Exercise your dog in the early morning or evening, when temperatures are at their coolest.

Never leave your pet in a parked car, even if you crack the window. We hope you and your pets have a Great Summer! SHADOW CREEK RANCH

DO NOT FEED DUCKS IN SHADOW CREEK RANCH! Ducks you see at the park are hopefully wild. They have wild instincts to migrate and the ability to forage for their own food. Domesticated ducks were bred by man for specific needs and derived from wild mallards and Muscovy ducks. Some breeds are specifically designed for egg production, others for meat production, and still others are ornamental. They range widely in size, shape, and color. Some lay white eggs, others brown, and still others rainbow colors.

Visit for tips on tree care during a drought, as well as a list of power line-friendly species and tree planting tips. You may also report street light outages at:

However, regular feeding can cause the following: • Poor nutrition • Pollution • Spread of disease • Overcrowding • Unnatural behavior • Delayed migration THEIR HEALTH When wild ducks are fed human food (especially bread or crackers) their organs become engorged and fatty, which can cause them to suffer from heart disease, liver problems and other health complications. Bread also has very few nutrients, and can get compacted in a bird’s crop. Many rehabilitators see “bread-impacted crop” in sick and distressed park ducks.

SEEN A NUTRIA? An increased number in nutria rats have been seen throughout the community. Due to a decrease in predators and better weather there has been a rise in nutria offspring. These creatures are not aggressive, but can be a nuisance to property and plants. Please advise your neighbors to stay away and do not feed!

Many people enjoy feeding ducks, but the effects of this seemingly generous act can be harmful. If you are about to feed a duck, please stop feeding them…allow them to return to their natural habits.

If there on private property you may contact your local liscensed pest control service. Any other nutria rats seen in the wetlands are protected by the texas wildlife association. Your hoa is working on relocating these creatures.

e have received comments regarding inappropriate swimwear being worn by some of our younger pool users. As a result, we have had to close the Activity Pool to deal with such matters. Please remember that all children in diapers MUST wear a specially designed swim diaper. These diapers are designed to minimize incidents without absorbing pool water like regular diapers do. Signage has been put up reminding our parents of this policy. If there is any question, our lifeguards will be monitoring this issue more closely and will politely ask to see the swim diaper. Parents with children without the proper swim wear will be asked to exit the pool until a swim diaper is in place. Swim diapers are available for purchase for your convenience. For health and safety reasons, please also remember to change your child‘s clothes in one of the locker rooms or the Family Changing Room.
