The Champion of the RPDYC Invitational Tournament

We had a great start to the year by winning a major tournament held by Royal Port Dickson Yacht Club (RPDYC). The Royal Port Dickson Yacht Club Snooker Invitation Tournament was held on 19 & 20 March 2016 and we were honoured to be invited to participate. A contingent of five players led by our Captain, Tan Bak Choon, drove up to Port Dickson on 18 March and were welcomed by the RPDYC members with chilled beers on a sunny Friday afternoon.

Our Contingent!

The tournament was very intense with competition against six other top teams in the Peninsula. The favourite was Penang Sports Club who breezed into the finals after beating Malacca Club in the semis.

Our new Member, Glen Yeo, played in the Singles against PSC’s top Singles player and made a few good breaks to end the frame swiftly. Jason Tan and Matthew Lim played Open Doubles and unfortunately lost the frame. The decider was played by our Captain, Tan Bak Choon as well as Victor Yeong. With good form from Victor and some Bak Choon “magic”, we won convincingly and emerged champions.

attractive F&B vouchers. Our dear Captain is planning to organise a new Ladder Tournament soon, so do get more practice at the tables to try to ascend the ladder. We have a few interport tournaments scheduled this year with visits to the two Bangkok and Penang clubs. Details will be announced, so do join us in these tours. Penang Sports Club will also be organising their large scale biannual tournament involving over more than 10 clubs across Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore in the later part of 2016. Royal Selangor Club has also confirmed the Six Red Invitational Tournament started by the Royal Bangkok Sports Club in 2015, to be held in June this year. On a sombre note, we’re deeply saddened by the passing of our former Member – Ng Thin Wah. Our sincere condolences to the family and friends grieving this immeasurable loss. Thin Wah, affectionately known as “Silver Fox”, passed away peacefully on 25 March 2016 and had served in various capacities in the Billiards & Snooker Committee. His great sense of humour and canny replies will be greatly missed. Come by, strike a few and have some whiskies. You may even get a chance to catch some live century breaks!

Drinks flowed endlessly and we were stuffed with food throughout the tournament. The host arranged a wonderful dinner and prize giving ceremony on Sunday evening. Kudos to the guys from RPYDC who devoted their time to arrange such a well-organised tournament! The National Snooker League also ended in early March 2016 after a good four months of matches played island-wide. Given that this was the first time we participated in the highest level league division, we achieved a good result ending up in the middle of the ranking table. It was a great effort from all the players who committed themselves tirelessly to play every week during the four-month period. Our in-house tournaments are currently being held, so do stay tuned and sign up for the upcoming tournaments to win some
