Important Policies

The SGC Summer Camp program is an educational, fun experience. Please impress upon participants they are attending classes on a college campus and appropriate behavior is expected. To ensure the safety and well-being of the participant, all rules of the college and instructor must be followed.

Cost Most classes are $59 each (unless otherwise noted). Some classes may require supplies to be brought from home. If supplies from home are needed, you will be contacted by the staff of Continuing Education prior to class or on the first day of class.

Refunds or transfers All refunds or schedule changes must be requested to the staff of Continuing Education before the first day of class.

Please drop students off at their classrooms. Do not leave students unattended. Please be prompt at dismissal times. If students are not picked up on time, they will be taken to the office of Continuing Education. South Georgia College Continuing Education reserves the right to cancel a class because of low enrollments, college emergencies, or other extenuating circumstances. You will be notified in advance if this occurs and sent a complete refund.

Dismissal Students may be dismissed from a class or program for non-payment of fees, behavior, and/ or violation of SGC rules and policies. No refunds will be given in the event of a dismissal.

Illness Students who are ill should not attend class. Parents/guardians will be called if a student becomes ill.

Release and Emergency Information Forms The required release form, photography consent form, and emergency information form must be on file in the Continuing Education office prior to the beginning of the first class. If your child is taking multiple classes, one set of forms is sufficient.


Art Classes Wearable Art With each new class you will bring home a piece of art that you can wear! Children will print on a t-shirt, make costumes, and jewelry. Paint and Draw Have you ever wanted to learn to paint and draw? This friendly, informal class teaches you the basics you need to know to become a young artist. (Lord) Ages - 6 - 8 years old 6/8 - 6/11 9 am - 12 pm $59 Ages - 9 - 11 years old 6/8 - 6/11 1- 4 pm $59

Make It Take It Arts and Crafts If you like to stay busy and make things with your hands, this class is for you. A fun variety of craft items will be made in this session. Sculpture Students will construct many different types of sculptures in this workshop that allows children to explore form and shape (clay, plaster, cardboard, paper mache, wire...) Young Picasso Each group will create their own masterpiece as they study several famous artists including Picasso, Van Gogh, and Warhol. Students will learn the techniques of painting on canvas using acrylic paints. Still life images will be explored in this class. This is a wonderful opportunity to show children just how much fun painting can be. Drawing, Jr. Learn to draw using basic techniques. Learn about line, form, shape, texture, value, color and composition. Apply each of these techniques in finished drawings. Upon completion, have a fundamental understanding of the tools and techniques necessary for drawing. A variety of art mediums will be explored in this class. Dance Classes Boot Camp for Dancers From beginners to the more knowledgeable, learn dance moves or improve the ones you already know. Proper stretching and dance techniques will be taught during this camp by a former dance instructor. (Jacobs) Ages - Completed 3rd - 5th grades 6/15 - 6/18 9 am - 12 pm $59 Ballerina in Training Have you ever wanted to be a ballerina? This class introduces basic dance movements, beginning ballet and music skills. Join us in this class to make your dreams come true! Leotards, tights, and ballet shoes are helpful, but not required. Dancers will learn choreography to the music of High School Musical and Hannah Montana. Come and dance the morning away! Beaches and Sunshine Dance to fun beach music and enjoy the happiness of the long summer days. Learn some creative dance movements related to the summer and the beach. Travel back through time and learn moves from the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. This and That Deep Sea Adventures Explore marine science while having fun! This hands-on class will relate the characters of SpongeBob to all areas of the Deep Sea by using games, labs, and activities. (S. Paulk) Ages - 5 - 7 years old Sea Squirts 6/1 - 6/4 9 am - 12 pm $59 What better way to learn about marine science than by enjoying activities related to one of the most famous undersea characters, SpongeBob? Students will learn about coastal habitats, marine biomes, and saltwater and sea creatures in this fun hands-on class! (S. Hot off the press! Learn how to report, write news stories, and take photos as part of the SGC Tiger newspaper staff. Get all the ins and outs of a successful newspaper business and what it takes to get the news to the people. (Preston) Ages - Completed 3rd - 5th grades 6/15 - 6/18 9 am - 12 pm $59

Golf Instruction These classes are for beginners interested in learning the basics of golf. Instructor will cover the grip, stance & set up, full swing techniques, rules & course etiquette, pitching & chipping and putting. The goal is to have the junior golfers gain enough knowledge about golf so they can practice, play and develop the skills they need to play for years to come. For Teens and Adults 9th Grade Math Review A review class for 9th grade students who have passed Math 1 but need a review before taking Math 2. Topics covered include functions, polygons, circles and spheres, probability, algebra and connections between these topics. Hands-on activities, collaborative learning, and computer activities will be used to facilitate student learning.(Benson) Ages - Completed 9th grade 6/8, 6/10, 6/15, 6/17, 6/22, 6/24, 6/29, 7/1 10:30 am - 12 pm $79 Become a Digital Podcaster Podcasting is a type of online media delivery. Learn how to podcast your own radio show on the internet with basic equipment and free programs available on the web. This class covers the basics of developing and maintaining your own unique internet podcast. The class group will collaborate to develop, launch and market a series of class chosen, theme based podcasts as a group project. Participants will be provided the opportunity to continue the collaboration after the class ends. (J. Learn the basics of entrepreneurship using today’s technologies to give your new business a boost without having to spend tons of money to get started. This class covers the basics of starting a new business and offers deeper insight into the emerging technologies that make starting and marketing your own business easier than ever. Students will explore business ideas, development of a business plan, technology driven marketing plans, methods for boot strapping a new business and more. (J. In just one enjoyable evening, you can learn enough secrets of the trade to make piano playing a part of your life, learning chords, not notes. You'll learn all the chords needed to play any song, any style, any key. And you'll get a healthy dose of insider secrets, how to embellish songs. This is an absolutely beginning class in chord piano techniques, and if you can find middle C and know the meaning of Every Good Boy Does Fine, you already know enough to enroll. (David Haynes) Birding Boot Camp All ages The Birding Boot Camp is a bird watching course that 6/19 6:30 - 9 pm will be open to all first time birders (ages 14 – adult) and $55 (additional $25 to instructor) those looking to refresh their skills. Topics covered will include how to choose and operate binoculars and spotting scopes, using bird guides, basic ornithology and bird identification, discussion of bird habitat, joining a bird organization, and backyard birding tips concerning bird feeding and housing.
