Current standings at winter break see Denver Barbarians (5-0-0; 25) at head of table comfortably after besting all comers with a maximum of points-hauled. The Men in Green’s halfback pairing of Carmine Hernandez (former CSU #9) and Chuck Ajarrista, who hails from the world-class rugby region of Bordeaux, have proven the sublime connection between pack and backs and the club’s blemish-less record thus far in the league is testament to the effect of that union.

Park City Haggis (3-2-0; 17), in second seat at table and straight-up America’s tastiest rugby meal, are left to rue what may have happened after allowing a Barbo comeback at home in the form of an Ajarrista try and his own conversion near time to fall to 24-26 defeat in September. And they’re followed closely by… Denver Highlanders (3-2-0; 15), promoted from D3 this year. Highlanders announced their re-entry into the division in large fashion, topping Harlequins (47-0) and Glendale (48-26) before being brought convincingly to ground by the frontrunners, 12-71, and then losing a first forty lead and match to Boulder Rugby, 14-21. Glendale Merlins (2-3-0; 13) dropped fixtures to two Denver clubs, Barbarians (24-36) and Highlanders (26-48), and lost to Haggis on the StoveTop in a cracker of a derby, 43-46; Merlins pair of wins came on the trot over Boulder, 38-10, and Quins, 48-29. Boulder Rugby (2-3-0; 9) also found joy on the road with wins past Quins, 34-14, and Highlanders, 21-14. Losses at PleasantView to Merlins (10-38), Barbo (5-85), and Haggis (12-27) made for their record. Denver Harlequins have yet to post in the victory column this season after achieving a points-differential mean of -47.
