Accounting Committee

A good reputation is more valuable than money. Background The Accounting Committee (AC) is responsible for keeping book of account and preparing financial statements for annual auditing. AC is currently led by the Treasurer of SEYSA E-Board. Since SEYSA was incorporated in 2010, it has become increasingly important for SEYSA to perform auditing diligently, in compliance with the Companies Ordinance (CAP 32). The committee is also responsible for developing and enforcing an accounting system with high transparency, reliability and efficiency. During the annual auditing, the members will have a chance to process the auditing matters with certified public accountants.

Duty of Members  Develop and enforce an accounting system  Advise the Board on accounting issues and financial condition of SEYSA  Keep proper book of accounts of SEYSA  Prepare financial statements for each financial year, including income statement and balance sheet  Produce financial report for Annual General Meeting Selection Criteria  Upright, responsible and diligent  Careful and organized  Experience and knowledge in accounting preferred  Good team player, communication and interpersonal skill

Communication Committee

Communication - the human connection - is the key to personal and career success. Background The Communication Committee (CC) is responsible for optimizing SEYSA’s communication with external stakeholders to facilitate effective and timely information flow. Members of the Committee will be extensively involved in the preparation of all correspondence and publications including but not limited to welcome kit to new members, press release, annual report, and newsletter. We act as the communication bridge between the Association, our members and external parties so as to strengthen our network and presence in various occasions.

Duty of Members  Handle daily communication and correspondence  Provide communication support, including proof-reading for outgoing matters  Assist in communicating between fellow members and external parties in various events  Prepare newsletter or other pre-or-post event notices Selection Criteria  Good at communication (both Chinese and English)  Responsible and committed  Experience in public communication and publication preferred but not necessary

Development Committee

The growth and development of people is the highest calling of leadership. Background The Development Committee (DC) is responsible for strategic planning by identifying, initiating and evaluating innovative projects and networks for SEYSA. Recently, DC renovated the committee member recruitment procedure, reviewed the SEYSA organizational structure and terms of committee member, etc. Projects like expert database, auto-mentorship programme, members’ directory, SEYSA-based think-tank, etc are on the agenda this year.

Duty of Members  Identify, design, initiate and prepare proposals for new projects  Collect data, perform analyses and provide evidence for renovations of projects  Assist the daily operation of SEYSA including event execution Selection Criteria  Good leadership and interpersonal skills  Good analytical skills  Responsible, dedicated and proactive  Open minded  Good time management skills

Operations Committee

Effective leadership is putting first things first. Effective management is discipline, carrying it out. Background The Operations Committee (OC) is a standing committee dedicated to programme execution. In short, the OC is responsible for programme design and logistics allocation for various events of SEYSA. OC also manages the human resources for SEYSA. Upcoming events include Meet the Patron, Be my Guest, Youth Programme, Annual Dinner, etc. OC works closely with the SEYSA Eboard as well as all other committees.

Duty of Members  Planning and/or assist in planning the programme of events  Prepare the allocation of logistics for programme  Manage the membership affairs  Assist the daily operation of SEYSA including event execution. Selection Criteria  Good leadership skills and interpersonal skills  Ability to perform contingency planning and handle crisis  Responsible and dedicated  Good time management skills

Information Technology Committee Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. Background The Information Technology Committee (ITC) is a special task force responsible for bringing technological advancement to SEYSA and all members. We work closely with all other committees to overcome different technological challenges, such as web development projects, art work designs, e-business operations etc. We also offer information technology training to team members within their interest groups. ITC is currently recruiting leaders for the development a new portal and academic forum for SEYSA members and introducing our own mobile application for portable electronics on both iOS and Android platform.

Duty of Members  Be responsive to the internet communications among ITC  Identify, initiate and execute new technological advancement projects  Provide possible IT solutions for the challenges faced by other committees  Assist daily IT operation of SEYSA including maintenance of the official web site, facebook group and online store. Selection Criteria  With basic computer skills, programming skills not necessary but preferable  Able to communicate promptly and with frequent access to Internet  Willing to learn new technologies  Responsible, dedicated and good project management skills  Proficiency in the use of PHP and mySQL

Design & Creative Team

Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works. Background The Design Team (DCT) works closely with the Communication Committee to plan, analyze, and create visual solutions to find the most effective way to get messages across. We provide creative approaches to print and electronic media using color, type, illustration, photography, animation, and various print and layout techniques. We also collaborate with the Information & Technology team to develop material for SEYSA’s Web pages, interactive media, and various multimedia projects.

Duty of Members  Provide artwork and design support to the Association Selection Criteria  Creative and able to effectively communicate their ideas visually, verbally, and in writing. They also must have an eye for detail.  No prior experience is required, but higher priority will be given to candidates with strong interest in design, publications, photography, website, and other multimedia related projects.  Proficiency in the use of graphic, web and multimedia tools (e.g. Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, iMovie, Flash, Dreamweaver, etc) is desirable but not a must.

Social Service Team

The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others. Background The Social Service Team (SST) was established in 2010 and serves as a platform for enthusiastic scholars to share their mission, ideas and network in social services and commit together in running or joining in social service programmes. Our past and present projects include deprived children tutorial/ support team, rural China service tour, computer technology support team in selected districts, etc. Upcoming projects (tentative) include summer activities for children in Sham Shui Po, computer support service in Tung Chung starting, walkathon in Western district and China service trips.

Duty of Members  Organize SEYSA social service projects programmes  Coordinate social services co-organised or participated by SEYSA 8

Contact and collaborate with coorganising partners of SEYSA social services on behalf of the Team Implement and participate in social service programmes and events of SEYSA

Selection Criteria  Available for meeting about once every two months with email communication and telephone meetings in between  Volunteer experience and network is not necessary. Useful advice and connections from experienced members are highly appreciated  Active and responsible attitude is essential  Committed and available for all or particular service programmes

Disabled Student Group

It is essential that we provide the best possible care for our disabled awardees. Background For the past months, SEYSA has been in the process of setting up a SEYSA Disabled Student Group (DSG) for our disabled awardees. Aims of the Group are three-folds: 1) To form a bridge for friendship and networking between SEYSA disabled awardees themselves and other SEYSA members, so to develop mutual help between all parties as well as to see what SEYSA can assist their disabled awardees. 2) To organize activities / events with the needs and perspectives of the disabled in consideration. 3) To have a voice in our society so to express the necessities and difficulties of disabled students in the present education system – to help others as well as to help ourselves. We thus aim to encourage more disabled students to further their education and to assist them to have a better life.

Duty of Members  Locate and contact disabled Youde awardees  Organize SEYSA activities and events that are suitable for disabled people  Organize workshops to provide update information about the current education system that are relevant to disabled students Selection Criteria  Responsible and diligent  Good team player, communication and interpersonal skill  Enjoy talking to people  Like organizing events
