Hunt More, Conserve More

Keith Carter revisits his first photography book. Do photographs taken of backroad Texas towns 30 years ago s ll have relevance? Take a look and see.

No need to get in a hurry; every major art/humanity event in Southeast Texas for the next six months can be found on pages 10 through 17. Theater, museums, fes vals, and music - it’s all there.

Tear it out, put it on the wall. Mark it up with red ink. Our handy calendar will let you know what’s going on.

There is no ques on. Why choose one or the other when a li le hard work gets you both? And what does art have to do with it? Ducks Unlimited has a long rela onship with art and Off Ramp will tell you why (unless you’re a Southeast Texas hunter, in which case you probably already know).

Murals of Sour Lake

The wheel turns; the useless, s nking lump twitches and begins to grow. What is trodden upon is placed upon the pedestal of Beauty. The work of Linnis Blanton.

Ar st Susan King restores the murals of Sour Lake, Texas.

Top: American and Texas Flags on Main Street - Brian Fillimgim - RestoraƟon is complete on both murals. As seen in the insets, the Texas Flag was in parƟcularly poor shape. Middle: Sour Lake Springs Hotel painted on the side of the Oil Patch Cafe. Susan King, leŌ, is seen working on the foreground. Even from a distance the fading of the paint is obvious in the clouds, grass, and the shadows under the porches. Work on this mural is in progress. BoƩom: Murals on the Community Center by Susan King depicƟng Sour Lake’s history. Work has not yet begun on these murals, but of them all these have survived most intact.
