One of my dearest childhood friends became slightly obsessed with hammocks, building her own instead of keeping a bed for her new room. Intrigued by the fact that she wished for accessible hammocks that she could pop up anywhere she pleased, I began to joke around with peers, creating this imaginable scenario where a hammock could pop out of a can and poof!create the perfect set up for instant relaxation. Enamored by this idea, again, jokingly, I pushed

it further, reflecting on all the long car rides my father and I used to take, passing state park by state park. We used to take trips to the Adirondaks, wishing we could stay in the woods for days, popping up a tent at any time, kayaking on the beautiful silver lakes. As friends billowed about their summer concert series attendance, sleeping in cars and forgetting certain items, dreading the idea of heading to the nearest drug store to grab a poncho, the idea grew.

and unwittingly, camping in a can was born.

Logos / Branding is key. Finding what speaks to the brand, is consistent in message and aesthetic, and what communicates speaks volumes for the product’s market. It’s vital to have a name that is unique and simplifies the use of the product. Sometimes, a creative name works, other times, simplicity in communication functions even better.

P O S I T I ON I N G; So, we know the product design is in a can-- obviously. But! What kind? Is it biodegradable for our audience. We know our travelers will want to use and reuse everything in order to carry less. The final solution will result in a reusable can, unlike normal soda cans, that have various functions like holding the product again, becoming a thermos, or acting as a carrier for perishable items.
