The meaning of ‘rukun’ (a Malay word) is :
pillar; foundation; divine command; commandment; principle.
Rukun is a collection of narratives, manifesto-like at times, from various contributors. Rukun does not wish to destablize current institutions. Nor does it intend to rock your faiths. It is merely a ‘stir’ in a large ocean. Meant to requestion exisiting notions of ‘established norm’ that we have oh-so take for granted. Its intention by the end of this zine/book (whichever you define) is to create your own understanding of what the word ‘rukun’ is. Rukun has some architectural perspective, but it is not defined through that lens alone. It’s an amalgamation of literature and art with a hint of religion (not focussed on any particular one) thrown into the mix for an added dimension
