INQUIRY-BASED LEARNING (IBL) APPROACH

Science is a wonderful subject loved by many. However,

whereby students are just passive receivers. One key

why is it that many children lose interest in the subject

feature of IBL is the acknowledgement that children (in

Throughout my 6 years at Seri Jubli, I have seen the school improve from just a few shop lots to having our own building.

I have also seen many other people graduate before me and before I know it, it is time for me to graduate too.

I want to thank the teachers who have taught me throughout my schooling here. Regardless of the subjects you taught me, I am very grateful for your time and effort put into me to make me a better person.

I am fortunate to be able to be a part of a very wonderful class. My classmates: Some of you whom I have known since 2015, others I have gotten to know more recently. Thank you! You have made my journey all the more enjoyable and meaningful. I will miss them all- the jokes, the laughter, the chit-chats. I wish you all the best in the future.

Since the founding of the house system, I have seen members graduating and new ones joining. Aeris, even though we were not necessarily the house with the highest number of points, I still enjoyed my time being a part of the house. Work hard, Aeris. A little more teamwork is all it takes.

Juniors, some of you still have a very long way to go, and others just have a year or two left. Whether you are in the primary or in the secondary, I want to urge you to enjoy the school time that you have left. Work hard but also work smart. You will not regret it when you look back in the future.

I have come to the end of the road for school, and through all the difficulties and the happy moments here, I can confidently say this: It has been a wonderful experience to be a student of Seri Jubli, an experience which I will remember in time to come.

Honestly, it has been a very hectic year for me. I have only been here for one year, and most of the year I have spent preparing for my exams or just honestly moping around by myself. To many of the people below, I have barely interacted with them and I probably come off as very awkward to the few who have. But that does not mean that I do not have anything to say to all of you, albeit a little generalised. As a matter of fact, I have tons of things to say, so here is to hoping this does not exceed the word limit.

To: My Juniors You guys are all probably part of the people that barely know who I am. I am just going to give some advice. The single most rewarding thing you can possibly do at our current stage of life, at least in my opinion, is to find what you wholeheartedly enjoy and want to do in the future, or in other words, your passion. I am sure we all have at least thought of school as frustrating, boring, and several other negative adjectives, most of us probably would not even attend school if not for our friends and family. But finding your passion can really alleviate the frustration and boredom we feel with school and with studying in general. I am not going to tell you guys to “work hard!” or “stay positive!” as those things are honestly really hard to do, and I do not manage to do them most of the time, so I would be a hypocrite to preach those values. But what I will tell you is that you need to take time and think. Think about those big questions, and discover more about yourself and the world around you. You will have a lot more fun doing things that you previously found monotonous if you can solve them. Also, you guys seriously need to be politer. Good luck to all of you, and get some more sleep!

To: My Fellow House Members

To: My Classmates Jeez, where do I even begin. When I first met all of you, I was honestly very intimidated, and worried about how I would fit into an already well-established circle of friends.

So, I did not really speak to you guys. Afterwards I was honestly really…. angry with you guys? Or more like I could not understand why you guys did what you did, said what you said, especially when things that were blatantly rude and honestly stupid happened. So, I did not really speak to you guys. Things got better as time went on, but since we were all busy preparing for our exams, and I was too much of a coward to saunter up to somebody and start a conversation. We did not really speak either. In conclusion, we did not speak with one another much.

I guess I did not adapt to going from one environment to a complete different one as well as I hoped I would. But I do not really want things to end between all of us as merely “familiar strangers”, so hopefully we can talk with one another more in the future? I do not really know, I just hope to be able to become friends with all of you guys.

Besides that, I also want to thank you guys for helping me settle down in class throughout the year, bothering to answer my questions, and even being willing to play games with me even when I have not been the most sociable.

Most of what I said to my juniors applies here as well. And I am not willing to type out the same thing twice so go read that you person that skipped straight to this section!

But I do have to add an additional “thank you” though.

Although we have only worked together a few times, it has been really fun trying to get the top spot in various activities and competitions. I am truly grateful towards all of you for welcoming me into the house. Here is to hoping that we can possibly meet each other again in the future.

To: My Teachers Truly “last but not least”. There is a lot I want to say, but to put it shortly: “Thank you”. There is simply no possible way that I could have made it to where I am today, to know the things I know and achieve the results I have achieved without the help of all of the teachers. I know that I can be quite the handful at times, so I am very grateful that all of you chose to put up with me even then.

Thank you sincerely, for all the time and effort that all of you have spent to educate not just me, but also every single student in this school. Please know that your work is always, always appreciated no matter how thankless it can be.

Well, that was long-winded, was it not? As cringy and sappy as all of this may be, I did write all of this with the intention of being as genuine as possible, admittedly at the expense of my embarrassment. As turbulent as the trials and tribulations I have been met with this year, and as bad as some of the things I say about the school are, I do admit that I have gained much more than I have lost, and I am very grateful for that.

It has been four years since I transferred to this school. I was eleven years old, extremely timid and sensitive. CREATIVE CORNER Friends can challenge us, confuse us, and sometimes, we might wonder why we bother. But friendship is as important to our wellbeing as eating right and exercising. What’s more, friendships help us grow through each year of our lives. Let us now hear from some of our Year 7 (ESL) students about their opinion on friendship.

What makes a good friend? (Mini opinion writing)

A good friend is extremely important for everyone. I think a good friend is a good listener. He or she should listen to you when you need a shoulder to cry on. He or she should always be there for you. A good friend must be trustworthy. He or she should never deceive or betray you and always keep promises. I think a good friend may not support you all the time, he or she must distinguish right from wrong. If you did the right thing, he or she should support you. If you did the wrong thing, he or she should tell you and prevent you from making mistakes.
