El proyecto solidario “SEK for Siyakula” ha logrado, gracias a la participación y aportación con donativos de la comunidad educativa de SEK-Alborán, la implantación de un techo y de un panel solar para que alumnos y profesores de la Escuela Infantil Siyakula en Sudáfrica puedan disponer de agua caliente, entre otros logros. El proyecto “SEK for Siyakula”, que ha sido premiado por el European Council of International Schools en un par de ocasiones, ha contado con la participación de la profesora Ms. Caroline Sánchez y un grupo de alumnos de bachillerato se desplazaron a Sudáfrica, donde colaboraron de manera activa en la construcción de una valla alrededor de la escuela. También han compartido material escolar para el aprendizaje de inglés y recursos como trabajos realizados por los propios alumnos y ropa. Además de estas iniciativas, los alumnos están desarrollando actividades junto con la asociación Orca Foundation, con el objetivo de fomentar el cuidado y preservación del medio y la fauna marina. ■
Thanks to the SEK-Alborán educational community’s participation and donations, the “SEK for Siyakula” solidarity project has succeeded in providing a roof and solar panel so that the students and teachers of the Siyakula Primary School in South Africa can have hot water, among other things. The “SEK for Siyakula” project, which has received awards from the SEK Educational Institution and the European Council of International Schools on more than one occasion, received help from teacher Caroline Sánchez and a group of Baccalaureate students who travelled to South Africa, where they actively cooperated in building a fence around the school. School supplies for learning English and resources, such as work done by the students and clothing, were distributed. As well as these initiatives, the students are taking part in activities with the Orca Foundation, with the aim of promoting the care and conservation of the marine environment and fauna. ■

ALUMNAS SEK EN UNA RESIDENCIA gERIÁTRICA
SEK-SANTA ISABEL: JóvENES, pERO MUY SOLIDARIOS Como parte del trabajo de la Unidad de Indagación los alumnos de 5º de EP organizan un Mercadillo Solidario y la Operación Kilogramo, en beneficio del hogar de San Juan de Dios. El pasado mes de diciembre los alumnos de 5º de Educación Primaria realizaron la entrega de la recaudación obtenida en el Mercadillo Solidario, cuyos fondos iban destinados íntegramente a colectivos en riesgo de exclusión social del mencionado hogar de San Juan de Dios. Nuestros alumnos entregaron el dinero al padre Carlos, dominico de la iglesia de “El Cristo del Olivar”. Se les explicó que con su donativo atenderían a más de treinta familias. El dominico dio repetidamente las gracias a los pequeños donantes, pero, al final, fueron los alumnos quienes agradecieron que, en su nombre, y por supuesto en el del Colegio, pudieran ayudar, gracias a Cáritas, a tantas personas y, sobre todo, a niños que no tienen la suerte que tienen ellos. En los primeros días de junio los alumnos de 4º de EP realizaron una Marcha Solidaria en beneficio de los damnificados por el terremoto de Nepal. ■
SEK-SANTA ISABEL: YOUNG, BUT vERY CHARITABLE As part of the work of the Investigation Unit, students from 5th grade organised a Charity Market and Operation Kilogram to benefit the Hogar de San Juan de Dios shelter.
Last December the 5th grade students delivered the donations collected at the Charity Market, which went entirely to groups at risk of social exclusion at the Hogar de San Juan de Dios shelter. Our students gave the money to Father Carlos, a Dominican priest from the El Cristo del Olivar church. he explained that their donation would be used to help more than thirty families. The priest repeatedly thanked the young donors. however, in the end, it was the students who gave thanks that, in their name and in the School’s name, and thanks to Cáritas, they could help so many people, especially children who aren’t as lucky as they are. At the beginning of June, the 4th grade students performed a Charity March to benefit those affected by the earthquake in Nepal. ■
