The paper describes the effect of martensitic transformation on toughness for a particular grade of stainless steel. An experimental study was carried out to understand austenite-martensite transformation in this steel and their correlation with toughness at various temperatures ranging from 303 K to 103 K. The transformed martensite has adverse reduced impact toughness of steel.
