Plastic Competition ‘Universal Design’

This project was focused around the idea of designing a ‘universal’ product. As part of the competition brief, plastic was the main material to be used. Materials research and truly understanding what universal design was & represents, were two highly important areas I learnt about during this project.

This aim of this project was to use small space efficiently. The concept tackles the problem of drying clothes within a confined space whilst remaining practical when not in use.


Not enough space in a single room.

Machine drying wastes money and energy.


Two in One Chair and clothes drying rack are combined for using space.

Saving time Using radiator heat to save time and energy.

When people use their first smart phone, there is often a learning curve required to become familiar with the product.

Application icons in smart phones are often not a large enoug size to everyone see clearly - particularly the elderly.

Qwerty Pad’s often lead to miss typing with those who are unfamiliar with them. The key pad is too small and narrow between icon and icon.

standard speakers are difficult to set up and carry because of complex wires and set up procedures. Laptops & mobile phones, but not have the same quality of sound as a dedication audio device and can often be tiresome to use over time (repetitive strain).
