The Brevard County Gator Club knows how to throw a party. This year’s annual Kickoff Party & Golf Challenge will be held on Saturday, Aug. 18 at Duran Golf Club. There will be a free children’s golf clinic at 3 p.m. The nine-hole par three golf challenge begins at 4 p.m., followed by the kickoff party at the clubhouse at 5:30 p.m. Brad Bowers, kickoff party chairman said, “This is one of the club’s biggest events and, by far, the most fun. This is the first time we have had multiple former Gator players play golf and attend this event. We hope to make it our largest fundraising event of the year.” The family-friendly event is open to the public and all ages may attend. Along with the free golf clinic, a supervised, outdoor Kids Fun Zone, during the party will occupy young attendees. Ally, the club’s six-foot long alligator mascot and Squirt, a baby alligator, will
be in available for photo opportunities and petting the baby gator. The kickoff party begins at 5:30 p.m. with pep rally music and highlights from the Gators’ previous seasons on the television screens. A revolving power point presentation will preview the upcoming season and honor the past gator players who attend the event. A “TailGator” buffet begins at 6:30 p.m. Vendors will be on hand, selling unique items and bringing a little bit of “The Swamp” to Brevard as well as a silent auction, giveaways and prizes for the best dressed male and female Gators. Former gator players Tony Rowell, Robin Fisher, Cal Dixon, Fred McCallister and Hugh Barton will attend the event and other players may attend. The players will also be playing in the golf challenge and sign autographs during the event. “Kelly Red” Collazo from ESPN radio’s Playn the Field and Mike Lowe from Lite
Rock’s 93.9 Mike and Mindy show will co-host the event. Tickets for the kickoff party are $20 for members, $25 for non-members and $15 for children under 12. The golf challenge begins at 4 p.m. the nine-hole, parthree event will feature a closest to the pin and longest putt contest. The format is a two-man scramble. There will be prizes for the winning and losing teams and the winners of the two contests. The golf event will sell out quickly, as it is limited to 36 golfers. Tickets for the golf event are $20. People and businesses may participate in this event by making a donation, providing prizes or choosing a level of sponsorship. Program sponsors begin at $25. Golf-hole sponsorships are $50.
