AMERICA PRAISE & PETITION

Z AG R E B

TO

MISSION FEST, 2006 BEREAN BAPTIST CHURCH, BURNSVILLE MN

Praise • New Covenant Bible Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa has decided to partner with us! • The Consortium of Twin Cities Missions Support Churches has voted to partner with us! • We are seeing God’s hand in so many things right now. Petition • Pray for safe travel as we put so many miles on the van this summer. • Pray that God would use this summer’s training to prepare us to better serve Him in Croatia • Pray that God would call forth many more financial partners quickly so that we can get to Croatia in September.

Are your faithful to God’s plan?

God is Faithful, Always! The guest speaker at Mission Fest in May at our home church was Chris Thomas, General Director of Torchbearers International. He talked about God’s faithfulness. God is always faithful to His own character and His own will. Isn’t that true! We have seen this time and again in our support discovery process. We prayed for and worked toward a March departure date, but God in His faithfulness said “no.” We praise Him now for that “no” because we’ve had to deal with some educational issues with one of the children that we couldn’t have dealt with in Croatia. Now we are working toward and praying for a September departure date. I really hope he doesn’t say “no” again, but if He does we will trust in His faithfulness!

Are you faithful to the plan that God has for your life? Has he been asking you to do something while you delay? Perhaps he wants you to share the love of Christ with your neighbor or colleague. Perhaps he wants you to serve in the church or a local charitable organization. Maybe he want you to change careers and go into vocational service for the Kingdom. Possibly he wants you to become a prayer or financial partner for one of His ministries. Maybe that ministry is in Croatia, Cambodia, or Cleveland. He does have a plan. He is faithful to His plan. Our role is to follow His plan instead of insisting on our own. That’s part of what true Christianity is; giving up our plans in exchange for His.

God provides for our resources in unexpected ways, but out of the mouth of a fish? It has happened before! In Matthew 17:24-27 tax collectors came to Jesus’ disciple Peter and asked him if his teacher was going to pay the temple tax. Peter replied affirmatively. Peter then went to Jesus, presumably to ask Him where the money for this tax was going to come from, but Jesus answered before Peter could even speak. Jesus told Peter to go fishing! Jesus said, “Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin.

Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours.” What an unexpected place to find money; in the mouth of a fish! When I read this passage I felt that God was telling me, have faith! Your support will come from places that you never thought to look. When Peter went to the Lord to inquire about money for the temple tax, do you think he ever thought Jesus would tell him to look in the mouth of a fish? Do you have fish lips?

HOMELESS & UNEMPLOYED

We’ve got no job, no house, and our kids are in another state. It almost seems like I should add that the pickup was stolen and that the dog ran off with the garbage collector. It’d make a good Country song. It’s true that we have no home and no job now. It’s an odd feeling. We are encouraged about taking these forward steps on the journey to Croatia, but they aren’t without trepidation. It can be hard to let go of that with which we are comfortable. How much harder was it for Christ and the original apostles. At least we have YOU!
