DISCOVER THE BENEFITS OF SENATOR uPVC WINDOWS AND DOORS

uPVC has a great many advantages over other materials used for manufacturing windows and doors, making it an ideal choice for both contemporary and traditional homes. Here are some key benefits to consider when choosing uPVC for your home:

1. 3. 5.

uPVC windows and doors are economical to install as they cost less than equivalent alternatives. The Senator range of uPVC windows and doors has excellent U-values but the real benefit comes from the ongoing, year-round, energy savings and comfort they provide, far into the future.

THE HEAT AND SOUND INSULTATION

With rising energy costs and the environment top of mind, Senator Windows and Doors are designed to make maximum use of the most thermally efficient materials. In addition to quality uPVC frames, double, triple and quadruple-glazing panes contain gas barriers to prevent heat loss, with warm-edge spacer bars and Low-E/Low-Iron glass further contributing to heat retention. Senator energy efficient products reduce energy costs, make your home a nicer place to live and entertain, while increasing the value of your house.

THE AFFORDABILITY THE LOOK

Available in both smooth and authentic woodgrain finishes, there is a choice of up to 34 colours, giving you plenty of options to suit your home and your taste. And, as every Senator Window and Door is made to order, we can create a style and finish to meet your specific requirements.

2. 4. 6.

THE LONG LASTING FINISH

uPVC’s durability means it requires little maintenance. Its elegant finish lasts and lasts, with just an occasional wipe with warm, soapy water. All of our windows and doors carry a 15 year guarantee, so you can be confident that you’re investing in products that will improve your home for many years to come.

THE SECURITY THE VERSATILITY

Senator uPVC Windows and Doors are designed with security in mind, as well as energy conservation. High security locking mechanisms and internal beading prevent intruders from removing glass from the outside. There is also a range of optional extras available to further enhance the security of your chosen windows and doors to give you complete peace of mind.

Senator uPVC products can be installed in any home - old or new, traditional or modern, new-build or replacement. Over the following pages you will see the wide range of product styles and optional extras available for you to create your ideal windows and doors.

WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS SAY…

“My top tip for others looking for windows and doors, is to research different materials, uPVC and aluminium, to fit your style of windows.”
Laura Cullen
Senator Windows customer

THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS

A newly built family home, with uPVC and aluminium working perfectly together.

Building their new home from scratch meant that Robert and Laura Cullen didn’t have to compromise on anything. Although Robert is an architect and deals with all stages of house construction, from design stage to completion, this was their first home build which meant it was their first time dealing with a window manufacturing company together. They wanted the maximum amount of natural light, with the best insulation and fuel economy possible. They chose Senator uPVC for the residential doors and the casement windows around the house. However, when it came to a particularly large window and the bi-fold patio doors, their Senator representative recommended the additional structural strength of aluminium. The combination of uPVC and aluminium gives them the best of both worlds. All the windows are triple-glazed, the uPVC in 7016 Smooth Grey matches the Anthracite Grey RAL 7016 aluminium, with satin-finish hardware throughout. For further information on Senator doors and windows, talk to your Senator Windows representative. Find your nearest Senator dealer on senatorwindows.ie.

This home combines the convenience and durability of uPVC with the structural strength of aluminium for the extra-large window and bi-fold doors. The 7016 Smooth Grey uPVC works beautifully with the Anthracite Grey RAL 7016 aluminium.

LIGHT THAT DELIGHTS

A dormer bungalow showcases a wide variety of uPVC styles and applications.

The owners of this distinctive dormer bungalow wanted to maximise the availability of natural light throughout their home. The layout of the house meant using a variety of Senator uPVC window and door types, including: Casement Windows, French Doors, Residential Doors and Tilt & Turn Windows, each made specifically for the space required.

They chose 7016 Grey for the exterior, in keeping with the slate roof, while inside they went for cream woodgrain for maximum light and to complement the interior décor. They opted for French Doors at the south-facing front entrance, incorporating integrated blinds for privacy. In contrast, they used smaller windows along the north-facing rear. A special feature in this home is a tall window facing the stairs, which lets light flood into the landing and the hallway. For additional safety, the lower panes are made with toughened glass. By choosing Senator Tilt & Turn Windows throughout their home these customers achieved sleek lines with full panes of uninterrupted glass, while still allowing for an opening through the tilt function.

PAGE 14

Customer’s Top Tip: If you’re putting blinds on a window, be sure to check that the reveals are wide enough. Is there enough space over the window to let you open it without catching the blind?

PAGE 15

RENOVATION WITHOUT COMPROMISE

Authentic period features, with contemporary style and comfort.

Rachel and Tadhg D’Arcy’s plan was, where possible, to restore the original style and features of the town house, while incorporating the benefits of modern innovation.

They chose Senator uPVC Vertical Sliding Sash Windows, in Cream, for the original house and downstairs extension. For the upstairs extension they opted for uPVC Casement Windows, with 7016 Grey exteriors and white interiors. For the hardware and fixtures they selected chrome throughout.

As well as being compatible with the house, they felt vertical opening windows were more suitable for a house that opens directly onto the street. Their favourite feature is the L-shaped back corner sash, which incorporates a window seat. It frames their view of the garden beautifully, allowing them to keep an eye on their little girl.

For the front door they chose a Senator Cahir 2 Sentinel Composite Door, in Anthracite Grey 7016. You’ll find more on Senator’s Sentinel Door range at senatorwindows.ie.

TOP TIPS

From our expert design consultant, Denise O’Connor

When considering how many openings to incorporate, consider how much ventilation you want and how the windows will look from your home’s interior and exterior. Fixed panes are great for framing beautiful views or for areas where ventilation isn’t necessary while opening windows can be placed strategically to provide cross-ventilation. It’s also essential to consider sightlines and how the window frames the view. Choosing a simple frame can maximise the amount of natural light and make the most of the view.

PAGE 21

PASSIVE & HIGH PERFORMANCE WINDOWS

With rising costs and stricter legislation, everyone has to consider the energy efficiency of their home. More and more people are choosing homes designed to the ‘Passive House’ standard, with excellent thermal performance, exceptional airtightness and minimum energy consumption.

While thermally efficient and airtight construction materials are key to energy efficiency, windows play a vital role in helping buildings comply with new NZEB regulations (Nearly Zero Energy Buildings). And it’s not just new buildings, retrofitted homes can also meet NZEB standards, with greater energy efficiency, yearround comfort, better air quality and lower energy bills.

Senator uPVC Passive & High Performance Casement

Windows are crafted using the EnergyPlus90 window system, one of few window systems to comply with the exacting ‘Passive House’ standards. Unlike other systems which rely on messy, time-consuming foamfilled cavities, EnergyPlus90’s unique 9-chamber profile is designed to meet the triple challenges of thermal efficiency, noise reduction and security. Testing has resulted in EnergyPlus90 joining the ranks of the select few window products to claim Passive House certification - Component id: 1014wi03 & 1015fx03.

TOP TIPS

From our expert design consultant, Denise O’Connor

Tilt & Turn windows are a versatile and stylish option for homeowners who value design and functionality. They work well in modern homes with clean lines and can also provide a unique twist in more traditional settings. One of the benefits of Tilt & Turn windows is their ability to open in two ways: tilting from the top for ventilation or turning inward for easy cleaning and maximum airflow. They are especially useful in rooms that require good air circulation, such as kitchens or bathrooms. When it comes to design features, choose a frame style to complement your home’s style.

TILT & TURN WINDOWS

TOP TIPS

From our expert design consultant, Denise O’Connor

Choosing the right colour for your uPVC windows and doors is essential to creating a cohesive and visually appealing home design. One of the first things to consider is the style and colour of your home’s exterior. If you have a traditional-style home, consider a classic white or cream colour for your windows and doors. For a more contemporary home, you might opt for a darker shade, such as grey or black. When it comes to the interior colour, consider the overall colour scheme of your room. If you have a lot of neutral tones, adding a pop of colour with your windows and doors can add visual interest. Alternatively, you might opt for a colour that complements the colour of your walls or flooring. Finally, to ensure your choice is timeless, choose a classic shade that won’t go out of style. Neutral colours are always a safe choice, as they can be easily paired with other colours and design styles. Ultimately, choosing the right colour for your uPVC windows and doors comes down to personal preference and the overall design aesthetic you want to achieve.

CONSERVING ENERGY, SAVING MONEY

At Senator Windows we work very hard to bring you the most energy efficient products, for the sake of the environment, your comfort and your wallet. Senator’s range of uPVC Windows and Doors is designed to provide the ideal combination of style, energy-efficiency and security. The range offers homeowners a comprehensive choice of glazing options to suit all kinds of homes, from traditional, to modern, whether it’s window and door replacements, or newbuilds and extensions.

The energy-efficient double or triple-glazing used in today’s windows and doors differs from traditional single or old double glazing. Today, Senator uses Low-Iron/Low-E glass, warm edge spacer bars and fills the space between the panes with gas, which minimizes loss of heat through the glass. Updating your windows and doors to today’s standards won’t just make your home more stylish, it will make it a more comfortable – and economical – place to live and to entertain your friends. You win three ways: You reduce your energy costs. You increase the value of your home. And you benefit from less ongoing maintenance.

PAGE 39

WHAT MAKES SENATOR WINDOWS AND DOORS SO ENERGY EFFICIENT?

Energy performance for windows and doors is measured in U-values. A ‘U-value’ indicates the level of thermal transmittance, or heat loss, you can expect from your windows and doors. It’s measured in W/m2K, or watts per metre squared Kelvin and, put simply, the lower the U- value, the better your home is insulated. A lot of heat loss in your home is through inefficient windows and doors – not just through the glass, but also the frame.

The multiple chambers inside Senator frames act as a barrier, making it more difficult for heat inside your home to be transferred to the outside. The effect of these chambers is further improved by the spacer bar and your glazing choice – double, triple or quadruple –with a gas barrier between the panes.

Before settling on the material, colour and style of your windows and doors, it’s worth taking a bit of time to decide what type of glazing you want in the various parts of your house.

While the emphasis is on preventing draughts and containing heat inside the house, it’s also important

to remember that sunlight is a source of natural, free energy. For example, north-facing areas may benefit from triple or quadruple-glazing because there is the least amount of solar gain but there are a number of factors to take into consideration before you make your choice of glazing. Managing the glazing options throughout your home will ensure you get the most benefit from the sun’s warmth, reducing heat loss – and bills.

The Senator range of uPVC windows and doors has excellent U-values, with window U-values as low as 0.71 W/m2K with triple-glazing and as low as 0.53 W/m2K with quadruple-glazing. Your Senator dealer can advise you and help you make the optimum choices for every room in your home.

FACTORS TO CONSIDER WHEN DECIDING BETWEEN DOUBLE AND TRIPLE-GLAZING

From our expert design consultant, Denise O’Connor

Upgrading to energy-efficient windows and doors can improve your home’s comfort and help reduce heating bills. But with so many options available, it can be hard to decide which type of glazing to choose. Here are some factors to consider when deciding between double and triple-glazing.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DOUBLE & TRIPLE-GLAZING?

The number of panes of glass is the main difference between triple and double-glazing. Triple-glazed windows have three panes, while double-glazed windows have two. The gap between each pane is filled with insulating gas, reducing the heat that can escape from your home. Triple-glazing offers better thermal efficiency, with significant energy savings compared to double-glazing.

WHAT IS THE ORIENTATION OF YOUR ROOMS?

Upgrading to double-glazing may be sufficient if your rooms face south since they receive natural solar gain. For all other facades, triple-glazing is preferable, especially for colder environments and exposed sites. Triple-glazed windows are thicker and heavier, making them more durable than double-glazing.

WHAT ARE THE COST CONSIDERATIONS?

Triple-glazing is more expensive than double-glazing, but the energy savings can offset the additional upfront cost over time. If your budget is restricted, consider installing triple-glazing on the north and east elevations with little or no solar gain and installing double-glazing throughout the rest of the house.

IS NOISE REDUCTION IMPORTANT TO YOU?

Replacing your windows with double or triple-glazing can significantly reduce noise pollution. Double-glazed laminated glass reduces up to 37 dB, while triple-glazed laminated glass can reduce noise by up to 40 dB. If you live in a noisy area or on a busy road, laminated glazed windows may be a great option.

Overall, upgrading to triple-glazing offers better energy efficiency and more significant savings on heating bills. Consider the orientation of your rooms, budget, and noise reduction needs when deciding which type of glazing to choose.

NOISE CONTROL

WINDOW SECURITY

An eye for style, a sense of safety.

Your home is your castle. You want to be sure that you, your family and your treasured possessions are kept safe from intruders. The frames and hardware you choose for your windows and doors will make a big difference to your security, while adding to the style of your home. At Senator Windows, we take security very seriously, using only the highest quality, secure locking mechanisms on all of our products. Just some of the ways that we protect your home …

SENATOR WINDOWS FEATURES:

• All Senator Windows have high security locking mechanisms, made with the most dependable, high quality materials.

• Senator’s uPVC windows are all internally glazed to prevent glass removal from the outside, for maximum security.

• For added safety, toughened safety glass is used, as standard, in windows that are less than 800mm from floor level.

• Casement, French, Passive & High Performance Windows have push-button handles which click shut, for added security.

• Senator’s Casement and French Windows are designed to accommodate high-security shootbolt locking mechanisms. The shootbolt’s additional locking points, at the top and bottom of the casement, give it added strength, making it even more secure and reliable. (See Page 53)

PAGE 46
SECURITY

PUSH HANDLES:

In order to open a window with a push handle, you have to press the button before turning the handle. This means you know the window is closed when the handle clicks shut.

BEADING:

Beading is what holds the pane of glass in the frame. At Senator, we place all beading on the inside of our window frames which means nobody can remove the glass from the outside, without breaking it and making a noise or setting off an alarm.

PAGE 47

DOOR SECURITY Built for peace of mind

At Senator Windows, our doors are among the most secure on the market and have passed the rigorous PAS 23/24 testing. What’s more, Senator is the only Irish window and door manufacturer to offer the ‘Ingenious’ 9-point locking system on uPVC Residential Doors. Using a combination of 5 hooks and 4 rollers, Senator’s exclusive Ingenious 9-point locking system secures the door to the frame at nine separate points, from top to bottom, for absolute security. Depending on the size of door you choose, you may also be able to add a shootbolt locking mechanism, for a full, ultra-secure, 10-point locking system.

SENATOR DOORS, SECURITY FEATURES:

• Senator doors come with high security multi-point locking mechanisms.

• Internal beading prevents intruders from removing glass from the outside.

• Doors are glazed with thermally toughened safety glass (EN 12150), which is up to five times stronger than ordinary glass of the same thickness.

EASY-CLEAN ‘EGRESS’ HINGE

The easy-clean ‘egress’ hinge has two advantages: it facilitates easy and safe cleaning, and it allows the window to be used as an emergency exit. In the ‘egress’ position it becomes an exit then, when the hinge is released, the sash/ opening can be moved into the easy-clean position. When you’re finished cleaning, simply close the sash/opening and the hinge automatically resets.

CHILD-PROOF SAFETY CATCH

Senator uPVC Casement and French Windows can be fitted with a childproof safety catch if desired. This safety catch allows you to open the window wide enough for ventilation but not wide enough to compromise security or child safety. In case of emergency, restrictors can be released as a means of escape. And, as the restrictor is fitted between the sash and frame, there are no unsightly attachments visible on the main surfaces of the window.

CREATING ARCHES AND ANGLES

The skilled team at Senator’s Wexford manufacturing facility can create window shapes to your exact requirements, adding style and efficiency to awkward or unusual shaped spaces, like arches, circles and angles.

GEORGIAN BARS

Georgian bars can be added to windows to achieve a traditional Georgian design. They can be stuck onto the surface of the pane, or they can be enclosed between the two layers of glazing, sealed in for ease of cleaning. Using the same colour as the frame, they are applied vertically and horizontally to form a grid pattern.

CHILD-PROOF RESTRICTOR

The Senator uPVC Vertical Sliding Sash Window can be fitted with Angel Ventlock® restrictors, if specified. The restrictor allows you to open the window wide enough for ventilation but not wide enough to compromise security or child safety. In case of emergency, restrictors can be released as a means of escape.

SHOOTBOLT LOCKING MECHANISM

All Senator products are designed and manufactured with safety, durability, efficiency and security in mind. In some situations, however, you may want additional peace of mind. Senator uPVC Casement and French Windows are designed to accommodate a high-security shootbolt locking mechanisms.
