Prior to founding his consultancy, John served as a director of integrated marketing, communications and public relations for two decades with organizations including the University at Buffalo, Roswell Park Cancer Institute and the Buffalo Federation of Neighborhood Centers (a community health agency). He previously worked as a copywriter and creative manager for Eric Mower & Associates and Entercom Radio. During his decade-long tenure at Roswell Park, his leadership helped to raise over $200 million for cancer research, treatment and capital programs. John codeveloped the successful RPCI CancerTalk consumer blog; was a key contributor to Roswell Park's top-level internal and external communications planning; and he directed promotional strategy and fulfillment programs with cause-related partners like DuPont, Dunkin' Brands, New Era Cap, Fisher-Price and more. As the Director of Integrated Communications for the University at Buffalo (UB), John led and/or managed projects for the Office of the President, Office of Government and Community Relations, and major schools and departments. Highlights included directing the recreation of the university's faculty/staff website and email delivery plan; helping to lead the university's Digital Transformation Initiative—a university-wide website reinvention/rollout; daily leadership of the buffalo.edu main consumer-facing web presence; and creating UB's first social media collaborative to improve integration/outcomes. Today, John serves as a consultant for a variety of clients, in a wide range of industries. He speaks regionally and nationally, and was quoted in The Washington Post in May, 2014 about the evolving “Internet of Things" movement. His LinkedIn blogs are followed by 6,000 professionals worldwide. John recently was a volunteer member of the National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) Cancer Trends Progress Report Usability Review Committee. He is an executive committee member of the national PRSA Health Academy, representing 750 healthcare and pharmaceutical communications professionals. John is also the past chair of the PRSA Northeast District, which represents 1,000 professionals from Maine to Pennsylvania.
