The pictures on the right my first attempt at Photoshop. Before I started this course I had never used Photoshop so the skills that I used for this was the ones I had learnt during that lesson. For my main image on my cover page I the used the spot healing tool.

This is something which I used for my music magazine when I started it later on. The spot healing tool makes skin tone appear more even, hides blemishes and imperfections. It can also be used cover up moles or spots. It can even be used to remove unwanted pieces of hair on the face. To edit my magazine pages, I also used the clone stamp tool.

This tool allowed me to clone a piece of my image and add it anywhere. I used this tool to make the people in my pictures hair look bigger or to fill in gaps in their fringes. This was very useful when there was a picture that I wanted to used but the person’s hair wasn’t right.

Another tool that I learnt to use was the magic wand tool.

This tool allowed me to cut people out of their original back ground and place them onto a new one, whether it was a different photograph of a place or just a plain coloured background. I took my pictures on a white backdrop. This made it much easier to edit them on Photoshop and made the edges around the cut out photographs a lot neater and sharper.

Giving the text a shadow makes it look more professional. I also had lots of fonts to choose one to see which one fitted around my pictures best and was suitable for my target audience. I think that the layout I used for my magazine appeals to my target audience. I wanted to keep the layout quite simple so that if I wanted to change anything it wouldn’t need major adjustments. My target audience was not extremists or individuals. I wanted my magazine to appeal to most people which is why I gave it a simple layout. To research text I used the site dafont.com. For magazine layouts I used the website Zinio. In the end I did not use any fonts from DaFont as the ones that I liked on the website was very similar to the one on Photoshop. It was also easier to edit them using the font on Photoshop. For feedback and ideas I created a survey on surveymonkey.com. This helped me with what contents to put in my magazine. I gathered all my results and picked out the most popular on what titles to put in my contents page and the ones which I felt were the most suitable. I paid attention to the detail in all of the magazines that I researched. I looked at the type of font they used, the positioning of the text and pictures and how the general design of the layout was. I tried to resemble mine to a magazine layout that I liked the look of so that I knew that layout would work. I did not proof read my work until I had finished writing everything. This was not the best of ideas as where there were errors; this affected the layout of my work which meant I would have to change the rest of the writing to fit around the one mistake that I had altered. I had previously looked at some magazine interviews to get inspiration from them. After looking at them I knew what the contents of my interview would consist of and the type of questions I was going to ask and answer in the interview. Most of the interviews that I saw were done cut down into small Q & As, which is how I set my interview out.

Looking back at your preliminary task what do you feel you have learnt in the progression
