Sefton LINk AGM 2012 - Review For a full review including videos and more photos, please visit www.seftonlink.com/events/agm2012

Thanks to all Sefton LINk members, partners, guest speakers and organisations for supporting this year’s Annual General Meeting which was held on Tuesday 13th November 2012 at St. Stephens Church Hall in Hightown. The event was an overwhelming success and a great opportunity to reflect on the dedicated work of Sefton LINk over the years…

The AGM featured a guest performance from Merseyside Partner’s in Policy Making’s T.E.A.M (Together Everybody Achieves More). The special drama performance highlighted the treatment and experiences of disabled people accessing health and adult social care services.

Debbie Fagan, Chief Nurse for Sefton’s Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs), spoke about the CCG’s relationship with Sefton LINk.

Attendees included Sefton LINk members as well as representatives from service providers and local organisations. Delegates were treated to guest speakers, guest performers and a video presentation highlighting the work of Sefton LINk from 2008—2012.

Sefton LINk Steering Group member and South Sefton Clinical Commissioning Group representative Libby Kitt delivered a presentation on Local Healthwatch followed by a brief open forum discussion.

Sefton LINk Community Champions Visit www.seftonlink.com/champions for more information Sefton LINk continues to work closely with both the Southport and Formby Clinical Commissioning Group & South Sefton Clinical Commissioning Groups. Based on a consultation with LINk members last year it was highlighted that they felt LINk needed to be more visible within their community settings. This would involve having people within the community that members knew and who they could go to with their health and social care issues / concerns. Sefton LINk Community Champions are community centres or public venues across the borough who are signed up to Sefton LINk as organisations. The role of the Champions is to promote and support the work of LINk in their local community. If you or your local group are interested in becoming a Community Champion in North Sefton, please contact Helen (Sefton LINk Support) on 01704 501024 ext 202 or email helen.murphy@seftoncvs.org.uk for more information.

Getting to know our local services... SATINS (Sefton Alcohol Treatment and Intervention Nursing Service) PLEASE DRINK RESPONSIBILY THIS CHRISTMAS Since it began in 2005, hundreds of people throughout Sefton have been helped by the specialist nurse-led alcohol service – SATINS (Sefton Alcohol Treatment and Intervention Nursing Service). Unlike other alcohol services that operate in the borough, SATINS is a healthprofessional referral service. To gain access to SATINS, clients see their GP and are given a leaflet outlining how the service works and how to contact the team to make an appointment. These leaflets are available at many local community venues as well as from GP practices. Anyone from the healthcare profession or health-related organisation can also refer patients to the service. To give you an idea these include A+E staff, social services and those who work within the criminal justice system as well as psychiatrists, dentists, midwives or pharmacists. Besides treating clients and giving them motivation to take responsibility for their drinking behaviour, SATINS also offers brief intervention training for other health care providers to assist in early detection of alcohol problems. Contact Healthy Sefton on 0300 100 1000 to get a free units calculator.

It gives advice on staying well in cold weather and the financial help that is available, covering issues such as healthy lifestyle, flu jabs and heating. ‘Keep Warm Keep Well’ is part of the Department’s Cold Weather Plan, which aims to protect people’s health and reduce harm from severe cold.
