The group will advise the principal on equality and diversity. It will promote and support ideas for change and development, and commission specific projects.

Professionally clear Membership The group will have 12 members drawn from across the college staff. It will not be representative of any group/s or sections of the college. Members will be chosen on the basis of skills, knowledge and commitment. We will ensure that we have a diverse group of staff because we know that diverse groups produce more relevant and creative results. Later, we may invite group members to take on the role of equality champions. The ten champions will each focus on one issue. These issues are: age, class, race, gender, religion, sexuality and disability; plus poverty, health and wellbeing, and safety in public spaces.
Group members will be chosen because they:
a Understand at least one of the ten
issues listed above, either from acquired knowledge or insight beyond the personal
a Can contribute to imaginative solutions to promote equality
a Have a clear and up-to-date
understanding of equality and diversity issues in further education
a Have a track record of taking initiatives on equality – either inside or outside work
This is not a group of experts but a group of committed colleagues ready to use skill and experience to get things done. Everyone in the college is a possible member. The college will support the equality and diversity group to develop further its knowledge and skill once it is formed.

Commitment Group members will be required to attend six 90-minute meetings during the year and, in addition, contribute 4-hours work on group business outside the meetings. The total commitment therefore for each group member is 13 hours per year. This time commitment will be formalised into members’ work targets and be included in their endof-year work review. We believe this group will make an invaluable contribution to our learners, our staff and all who are involved in Seevic College.
