2143. 1845 sale of land under an Indian land grant signed by (the secretary of) President John Tyler, with seal. 18" x 12". This large, printed and handwritten document on thick paper records the sale of about 285 acres of land, in the Coosa Land District, entitled to “Hannah of the Creek tribe under an 1832 grant, to Samuel W. Mardis and Joseph H. Bradford, as officially sealed and signed by the office of the U.S. President in Washington, D.C., in good condition save for several deep folds. Estimate: $75-$110.

Miscellaneous 2144. Lot of 3 Civil War-era letters (and a small envelope) dated 1861-9 to/from Texas. Mostly 10" x 73/4". Interesting personal piece from the war and afterward, the handwriting legible and the paper in good condition but folded and slightly stained. Estimate: $100$200. 2145. Spanish-American War in Cuba, letter by Antonio Maceo (hand-signed with Masonic symbol of 3 dots in a triangle pattern), dated August 15, 1876, very rare. 6" x 4-1/4". Issued at the General Headquarters of Las Laras, this letter authorizes citizen Cirilo Moya to keep in his possession a beast of burden for the maintenance of his family. Apparently most Cuban rebel leaders like Maceo were Freemasons, as evidenced by the symbol used on this small but important letter. Nice condition with only light folds, later comments penciled at bottom. Estimate: $200-$300.
