Senior Ricky Flynn (Lynchburg, VA/Damascus) was tabbed the ODAC Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week. Flynn made his 2009 cross country season debut in epic fashion as he won the Brown division of the fabled Paul Short Invitational by five seconds. He posted a time of 24:43 in the 8K event as he outpaced the rest of 322-person field that consisted of teams and competitors from Division I and II schools in addition to other DIII competitors. Ricky finished just four seconds ahead of the LC all-time record that he set last season, and his time shatters the previous 2009 season-best time in the ODAC of 26:03. Junior Jennie Pernisi (Camden, NY/Altmar-Parish Williamstown) also had a phenomenal run at the Paul Short Invitational en route to being named ODAC Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week. Pernisi paced the Hornets with a time of 22:45 in the 6K event to take fifth place. She smashed the LC record in the 6K event, beating her own record of 23:17 established in 2007. Jennie also set a new ODAC 2009 season-best time in the event, outpacing fellow Hornet Ashley Meyer (Springfield,MO/Glendale) who had set the mark at 23:44 earlier in the season. Sophomore Elena Kritter (Culpeper, VA/Rappahannock) led the Hornets to two huge five set victories in ODAC play this week as she was honored as the Volleyball ODAC Player of the Week. LC defeated Bridgewater Wednesday for the first time since 1999, as Kritter had 13 kills and 21 digs. The 5-9 outside hitter slammed 16 kills and added 19 digs as the Hornets took sole possession of first place in the conference with a thrilling come-from-behind win over Randolph-Macon College Saturday in Turner Gymnasium. For the week, Kritter had 29 kills and a .297 hitting percentage, three aces and 40 digs. ###
