For immediate release - 4/11/2010 - #348 Numerous Hornet Men Succeed at Merrill Lynch Track & Field Classic on Saturday LYNCHBURG, VA - Numerous Hornet men’s track & field athlete excelled at the Merrill Lynch Track & Field Classic on Saturday. The 4 x 100 meter and 4 x 400 meter relay teams both set the top mark in the ODAC for this season. The 100 meter team of Mark Chauteh (Falls Church, VA/Bishop O’Connell), Thomas Clark (Alexandria, VA/TC Williams), Dakota Pellman (Lynchburg, VA/ Heritage), and Evan Ellison (Atlanta, GA/McCallie) placed second with a time of 42.99 seconds, just 1.09 seconds short of provisionally qualifying for NCAA Championships competition. Clark, Rashard Adams (Ashburn, VA/Stonebridge), Pellman, and Ellison also placed second in the 400 meter relay at 3:21.55, just 0.18 seconds behind a D1 team from Liberty. JacQuan Eldridge (Farmville, VA/Buckingham County) jumped 21’3.5” in the long jump while Denzel Solomon (Randolph, MA) also had a jump of 20’11.25”. Ralph Davis (Herndon, VA/Oakton) took home second in the shot put, making a heave of 45’8.5”. A trio of pole vaulters had a strong performance. Clark finished third with a vault of 14’5.25”, and Eric O’Connor (Windham, ME/ Windham) and Nathan Curtis (Chesapeake, VA/Hickory) placed fifth and sixth respectively at 13’11.15”. Dan Reid (South Hamilton, MA/Hamilton-Wenhom) and Jon Michael Pavia (Forest, VA/Jefferson Forest) continued their dominance of the hammer throw with tosses of 162’3” and 155’10”, respectively. Ricky Flynn (Lynchburg, VA/Damascus) won the 1,500 meter run, completing the race in an ODAC-season best time of 3:59.48. The Hornets will look to earn their 24th ODAC outdoor track and field championship on April 23-24 at Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, VA. ###
